How many times have you seen in the movies, where they have a pile of diamonds all loose together in a pouch? Would anyone really keep diamonds like that?

Is diamond melee really kept in a pile like that, and wouldn’t that mean all the diamonds in it would be scratched beyond belief, since diamonds can scratch other diamonds? Why even bother with an excellent, perhaps even good, polish for diamonds treated this way?

Lol! DH was watching an old gangster movie in which thieves emptied a bag of large diamonds onto a table. I was like "gasp!"

Yes, it is true! Melee diamonds are commonly packaged together in parcel papers and diamontaires will spill them out, sort them, get what they need, package them back up and that process can be repeated countless times.

On the one hand, it is true that diamond can scratch another diamond. There is even something known in the trade as 'paper wear'. However, a certain amount of pressure is necessary to for scratching to take place, so with careful handling you can avoid any significant problems.
