Don't eat yellow snow.Hi I’m looking to buy a diamond and need some advice please.
Lol sorry posted before I finished typing. See next postDon't eat yellow snow.
Oh, wait, you mean advice about buying diamonds?
Well...
Is it for you or someone else?
What do you/someone else like in terms of shape / size / colour / clarity?
What is your budget?
Are you in a hurry?
Where are you located?
Are you happy to purchase online?
The blue bar near the top of the forum has a whole section on diamond education so take some time to read through and that should answer most questions you might have, then we can help you find a great stone![]()

EDIT:
Ah, you've posted a stone to consider!
Well done for checking the HCA - the score indicates it has potential
I am a little surprised at the score TBH - with a steep pavilion and a steep-ish crown, I would have expected it to score lower, but I am not an expert
Do you have IdealScope and/or ASETscope images to assist in determining if it suffers any light leakage issues?
Is it a Mined or MMD stone?
Please post pic of the hearts.Yes natural stone. GIA graded.
Well it scored 2.5 originally but I added hearts and arrows patterning and made it a two. It looked like it had it but I’m no expert.☺
No ASET but it has a video.
Please post pic of the hearts.
It doesn’t fall into the AGS ideal cut guidelines. Only GIA excellent. I eliminated any that didn’t make the cut for both. I would pass. I also don’t think you’re supposed to check H&A on the HCA calculator unless it’s labeled as an H&A diamond. What is your budget?
Just depends on what you want out of your diamond. What are your current stones’ proportions? Are they super ideal? To me, cut wasn’t something I would sacrifice. It probably won’t be a poorly performing diamond, but it will not perform as well as a better cut stone. Can they view it for you? What is their return policy?
Yes lots of great advice and knowledge. That’s why we’re here. Good luck with your searchmy friend, ive been racking my brains for weeks...came her for advice. No im just broken and realized so much more now. Your budgets a bit more than mine..11k..and was shopping for a 2carat...but those thoughts have been dashed...lol. The expertise here is on another level.
But lemmie say this, your stone you just posted looks like a 60/60 stone (i just learned this...lol)...don't ask me to explain...im sure an expert will chime in.
As @alltrac noted, this is a 60/60 stone. These stones tend to have good spread. They will have a lot of white light, but often lack the fire and high-pinpoint light you see in your current stones. I happen to like them. You 100% need an IS or better yet ASET image. It is hard to buy they by the numbers.
Thanks for your reply. Yes they don’t usually upgrade with virtual inventory but since they don’t have anything in my requirements at the moment they are willing to do so but it would be my final upgrade. Which doesn’t bother me as I don’t think I can convince my husband to spend anymore money on diamonds. As @alltrac noted, this is a 60/60 stone. These stones tend to have good spread. I'm not a pro at BGD's policies, but I don't believe you can upgrade from an inhouse line to a virtual inventory. Or, if you do, you are "out" of the BGD upgrade policy after that. You also need to upgrade two of three (size, color, or clarity) for an upgrade.
