Designing my 20th Anniversary Ring

Oh, that would be nice! I live near to the border so I can also ship it hold for pick up to a FedEx depot and make a day trip down. That’s what I’ve done in the past and it’s pretty low stress cause overnight shipping without crossing the border is pretty reliable. I should’ve done that to ship the diamonds to him! Somehow, I thought this would be faster. o_O

I vote that we all have a PS meetup in LA and collect your ring together! :lol-2:

SO relieved for you!!

I’m all caught up now, sorry for blowing up your notifications :lol-2:

I’m so glad I waited to get caught up, I would have been in a panic for you! I’m sooooo glad your babies arrived safely!

Your ring is going to be incredible, I can’t wait to see it finished! David is amazing, you are in great hands. If it makes you feel better, because I went the hand-forged route, all his bench had was my stone (which arrived the morning the fires broke out and there was a mix up with the fedex guy amid all the chaos), a rough cad, three pictures from Sotheby’s auction five years ago and a couple notes from me. It’s been slightly stressful

Thanks for the commiseration @lavenderdragonfly23 !

The diamonds have all been scanned and the three diamonds without lab reports will be sent to GIA on Monday. And I should get an updated CAD with the correct diamond dimensions then too. Fingers crossed it works out with the mix of shapes!

After that I will get a plastic model sent and I will need to decide on metal! I will need help from you all with that but I want to ask a few questions of David first.

The diamonds ended up being remarkably similar in proportions once they were scanned! Goes to show how the macro pictures I’ve been posting really exaggerate minute differences. And this explains why to the naked eye they all look basically the same.

IMG_4553.jpeg

I asked David if he had any concerns about the diamonds as a cohesive suite or any concerns about setting them given the girdle issues with Sally and Rita and Rita’s wonk. He said the diamonds look “quite nice” all lined up (:lol-2: damn me with faint praise why don’t you!) and he can adjust the prongs to mask any issues.

Perfect, Sally, and Rita went off to GIA yesterday for dossier reports and he is shipping me a plastic model tomorrow! woo hoo!

Here is the CAD for you curious types. It’s not the final one with the correct stone measurements bc that one is a weird rendering that’s hard to parse, but it’s basically identical to this.

IMG_4498.jpeg

I’m gonna add engraving on the shoulders something like this.

IMG_4497.jpeg

Now I really need to make my decision about which metals to use… mixed or solid? Platinum and gold or different colors of gold? And what color gold??

@lala646 how long does GIA usually take for your reports?

I'm so excited for you and cannot wait to see this RING! It's going to be amazing!

Omg that's amazing and your skills have paid off. That's a very nice suite of very similar dimensions but with slightly different personalities. I really love the old world charm and the details you're adding to the band.

I love the shoulder swoop, and the touch of engraving will be perfect!!

I don't think it's ever taken them more than 2 weeks to turn around a report, at least in the NY office. My personal vote would be for a plat head and his 14k antique gold for the band (or antique 18k if he has it).

I LOVE IT! I vote to keep it authentic and go with platinum/18k antique gold :kiss2:

I love the design you settled with, it’s beautiful … I know how much thought went into it this, and it’s going to be so worth it!

Agree, platinum with YG shank. Ask DK for photos of his antique gold. It was posted somewhere a few years ago but I didn't save it.

I know it's here somewhere, and surprised I didn't bookmark it.

I do have one post saved with his antique 18k - @Skymonkey2000 has a gorgeous 3 stone.

I have rings in his 14k antique yellow. But at one point there was a post showing his standard vs. antique 14k and 18k. It might have even been on his IG but it was years ago.

this is the 14k antique yellow

Wow you are all very much in agreement!

I have definitely been considering antique 18k plus platinum. Here are a few threads with that 18k mix.

disregard the rose color in this one. The antique is less yellow than the 18kyellow, but it’s not orange - it’s a bit rosy/brown.

this one shows the rose and antique yellow color more accurately.

all these are from DK

Here is a little background info on the stone and the design

I have resolved to finally set more of my colored stones this year.

My latest was inspired by an antique ring. A very unique and sculptural setting. And I had them cast it in 18k antique gold. The color is incredibly rich- looks like even higher carat gold. I'll include a side by side of it with 18k (royal) yg & 18k rose gold to show the difference.
I bought this beautiful cushiony oval zircon last summer from Mastercut gems.

DK pulled this off in 2 cads. (The 2nd was just minor adjustments.)

And here she is on my hand:

Here's the side by side of the 3 flavors of 18k:

Unsolicited advice, so take it for what you paid for it (;)2 )
But...DK has an 18k "antique" gold that looks like 22k. Rich gold with an orangy undertone.
First pic is DKs:

I loved your color description. Like ginger ale that fizzes and pops. Great visual!

I am posting a photo of my ring on my hand, but if our skin colors aren't similar it may not help. But here it is. Also, these are warm stones, M color, so that would impact it, I think.

DK just sent me photos of my completed ring!

Centre stone is a 1.54 uncertified deep brown yellow marquise from T Star in HK.

I vacillated quite a lot about how to set it in my Rocky Talky thread here but ultimately went with my minimalist gut, and opted for a very sleek deep gold setting to bring out the brown glow - I told DK he could choose whatever finish and hue he wanted as long as it was "languid understated super luxe", haha. It's set in DK's "antique" 18K alloy, ring size 5.25.

I haven't received it yet as I've asked for it to be sized down just a touch, but when I saw the photos I had one of those jaw dropping "OMG YES" moments. So so happy with this!

But I've also been thinking a lot about 18k rose or apricot/peach gold to really do something different from my other rings, which are both 18k yellow. :read:

@Dreamer_D Gorgeous CAD for a gorgeous suite!!!

I'm in team-two-tone, and would definitely love PLT head with DK's antique gold for the shank.

Can hardly wait to see it finished, and on your hand!!!

I love it! The baskets are so good. I am now partial to two tone (thanks to your encouragement;)2) . However, an apricot/peachy gold also sounds very cool! I cannot wait to see the final product on your hand!

Was the 3d mold shipped yet??

I am pretty set on two tone but I’m trying to decide the shank color! Yellow or rose or peach??

I just got tracking for the FEdEx shipment for the mold! But it has to come to Canada so I assume I won’t get it until next week :eek2:

How do they make those little molds anyway? 3D printer?

I have a pair of tiny hoops in what Reinstein Ross called Apricot. It's a really nice gold color. Not sure if DK's would be the same, but here they are next to that ring of 14k yellow antique. It's dark here now so the brightness is a bit off but I think you can see how they compare. I think something peachy/apricot would be really nice.

Thank you so much! What karat is the earring? That is another factor I am thinking about. I’m also thinking about finding bands to pair with it. Going with something unique will make that harder unless I order a matching band.

Honestly I don't remember the karat of the earring, but I'll guess 18k. I'll go on their site to see if they still make them. I think I've had them for something like 30 years:lol:

I was thinking that if you do go with the peach/apricot you would want to have a band made or you could always use white metal if you do a two tone.

Okay, so it looks like it's probably 22k. Here they are on their website. Wow, I'm glad I bought them 30 years ago. I know I paid a lot less!

Yes they look super rich! Some PSers who have rings made of DKs 18k antique say it looks like antique 22k gold. I’m leaning that way. I don’t think I should let finding a band be a deciding factor since I have never consistently worn a wedding band with any of my rings in 20 years!

Definitely look into his 18k antique or peach for the shank…I love that. My shank is just DKs 18k yg and I wish mine had a deeper color but I didn’t know about the 18k antique color at the time!

My plastic model arrived :kiss2:

IMG_4570.jpegIMG_4579.jpegIMG_4577.jpeg

I love it. It’s very delicate like I wanted, the height is perfect, the spread across the finger is just right. Looking down all I see is diamonds but it doesn’t go between my fingers at all. The semi-bezels in the end were the right choice because it’s very comfortable, I don’t feel it at all. I love the proportions just as they are! Wheeeee!

As I hoped, I really like how it looks with my antique Belais 18k wg band.

IMG_4582.jpeg

I had been thinking about engraving the shank but I’m going to leave it plain. I really can’t see the shank when I’m wearing it at all and I want to pair it with textured (engraved, diamond etc) bands and I think plain will work best that way.

My only pondering still is metal choice. I love the color of my Belais band and I’m wondering about doing the entire five stone ina similar color unplated wg?? Would that be more versatile than mixed metal in terms of pairing it with bands? Would two tone still work with my Belais band and if so, should I do an 18k unplated gallery instead of platinum?
