depth of 61.3 too deep?

Hi All,

I've recently ordered a round cut diamond through my local jeweler for an engagement ring, opting for quality over size (as my partner is petite but internally flawless ). I spend quite a bit of time looking for one with good proportions (within my budget), and thought I had found a good one. However I'm beginning to second guess my choice as I've been reading that depths over 61% are "off-cut" diamonds(?), and that tables over 57% are non-ideal... I haven't seen the actual diamond yet.. The proportions gave a HCA score of 1.4. What do you guys think of the diamond for the price, and does anyone have a similar diamond that they can share their experience with? This is the first time I'm buying a diamond.

According to the AGA Ideal parameters developed by David Atlas, the depth should be 58-62.3%.

According to Good Old Gold's information sheet on AGS Ideal, found here http://www.goodoldgold.com/classic/ags_000.htm, the depth can be between 59.9 - 63 %.

So as far as depth is concerned, perhaps you shouldn't worry.

There is nothing wrong with a total depth of 61.3%. Instead, there is something wrong with somebody claiming it should be below 61%.

However, nothing in these parameters can tell you anything about the cut-precision of hearts-and-arrows.

Thank you for all the responses, it has been a great help. I would've liked the psychological carat weight of 0.75 instead of 0.74, but that would have meant spending an extra ~$1000 for a stone with good numbers, or sacrifice on something else.

Does she really want IF? Because a lot of women would rather have a larger VS1 which is a very, very clean diamond. You can't see inclusions with a 10x loupe, generally.

Yea I know it would be very hard to see the inclusions in an VS1, even with a loupe, but the IF is more of a sentimental thing rather than a practical one. Also, for the price that I payed for this diamond, downgrading to a VS or VVS in clarity only bought me about an extra 0.03 carats or so. As size was a low priority in this case, I opted for the clarity, even though I realise that it would make no practical difference to the appearance of the diamond.
