Dark circle in certain lighting

Hi,

I recently received this 1.20ct elongated cushion modified brilliant e-ring and the first thing that jumped out at me was this large dark ring almost like an iris around the center of the stone. It seems most prevalent in direct sunlight from my observations. It isn’t always visible. I don’t know if it’s normal, or if it should be an immediate return.

I can see that in the video of the stone as well. To an extent it's normal with X style cushions, but yours looks exaggerated to me. But I'm not a cushion expert so waiting for people who know more than I do about this cut to chime in.

Does it only show up when you are viewing it up close or when you are taking pictures up close, or can you see it from a distance as well?
Wondering if this is obstruction? I'm sure @Karl_K can answer this one.

I found that it’s most noticeable in direct sunlight. But that’s also when it has its most fire. I want to say that I can tell a difference if I hold it out further from me at arms length than up close. I first noticed it while sitting in my truck looking down at it. In more diffused lighting it isn’t as noticeable. I was thinking it was might be head obstruction too as I read up more and more.

Here’s some pics I just took the first few in morning over cast light and the second in fluorescent bathroom lighting. Taking with an iPhone 8.

Sounds like areas that are easily obstructed, Blue in ASET.
Going dark and giving a fire show in direct sunlight is something that diamonds do, it looks normal to me.
If you dont love it then return it if you can.

Ok here are some pictures with direct sunlight coming in from the right. Not high noon. I think I may have been noticing it more inside of my truck because of the relatively close dark ceiling and dark interior. Add in my dark cellphone and head and that makes it more prominent.

Ok so now that I feel better about why her diamond is behaving that way and it’s normal what do you think overall about what you see? The more I have it the more I’m happy with my purchase. I think I might just be the type of person that needs validation!

Just FYI @Karl_K can't answer this bc vendors aren't allowed to comment on other vendors' wares (for good reason to avoid bias, etc). So he can answer why you might be seeing the darkness, but not about whether the stone is "good" or not.

It really is so pretty! I'm not an expert so can't speak to what the cut is doing and if that's to be expected, but I personally think she will be very happy with such a beautiful ring. Congratulations!!!!!!!

These new pics make me think it's about the reflection from the dark ceiling and interior vs any other issues. I think it's a really pretty ring!

This facet pattern either tend to have a lot of obstruction or a lot of leakage.
Obstruction is "better" because it goes away with distance(unless its really really bad) where leakage does not go away other than glare.

So it seems to go away when it’s held out at arms length so I think that is better than the leakage.

I proposed about an hour ago because the moment was just right and God told me to go for it and she said yes! I’d been nervously thinking of special unique ways to propose but the timing and vibe at the moment had other plans.

I’d still like to hear any thoughts or concerns because if she brings up any issues I want it exchanged to her liking! So far so good though!
