Hi all,
So my girlfriend really wants an asscher cut diamond and the Daniel K Rosebud setting. Obivously, I can not buy the combo directly from Daniel K because I can not afford it. My plan was to get a ~2 carat asscher from GOG or a pricescope vendor and see if I could get the setting only from Daniel K or have a custom made that would be similar.
So I contacted Daniel K through their website about purchasing the setting only from them and received the following response:
The Asscher ‘Rosebud’ semi-mount has an estimated quarter carat of diamonds set in the handmade platinum mount. The suggested retail price is $11,500, but since we’ll be working with you directly, you’re cost will be $8,050.

The 8k price seems high to me for only .25 carats. What does everyone think? Is it absurd to consider paying that much for a setting? Would I be better off looking to get a custom made that would be similar? Anybody have an estimate for how much that would cost? Any other ideas? Should I try to negotiate with Daniel K via email or give them a call? The other option is this setting which looks very similar but even has .7 carats of diamonds for a much cheaper price:

Does anyone have any expericence with Dimend Ascaasi? They are Citysearch rated 5 stars -- does that mean anything? Are their settings decent quality? For $2.8k price I could sure save a lot to buy a better center diamond. I''d love to hear everyones'' thoughts.
Also, does anyone know if I buy a seperate setting, would GOG (or another vendor) set it for me if I buy the center diamond from them? Any problems here?
