Got some pictures of our custom cushion cut halo from our jeweller. It's just back from the setter, but is undergoing a final polish.

The one thing I'm anxious about from these pictures is that the prongs look quite stubby and seem to cover quite a bit of the stone. It's 1.52ct, measuring 6.15mm x 6.7mm.

I know this is a zoomed in image, but I just can't help thinking that these prongs aren't right. I know the stone will definitely be secure, but this doesn't seem very delicate or graceful.

Any thoughts, or am I being paranoid?

I would agree: the prongs are very large and bulky.

I would suggest changing them to double claw prongs or single claw prongs.

If you want more protection, maybe something like this. I can't find a better example now but have seen better.

OMG...they're Hugh! Sorry, that just popped out of my head. I would certainly speak up and tell th!m you did not want extra large prongs!

HUGE. I would not accept that ring as is. Ask them to fix the prongs. The rest of it looks great, though!

I agree with the others - they are too big and not very attractive prongs. I'd have to ask them to fix them.

I would not describe them as delicate, chunky more like, sorry!

DK ;)

These prongs are huge and I would not accept it. The jeweller should fix it.
Apart from the prongs it's a beautiful ring.

Whoaaaa... definitely too substantial and overwhelming! The prongs undoubtedly detracts from the elegance of the stone and setting, even in real-life perspective.

Our jeweller came good in the end. I emailed him at 1:30am saying those claws simply weren't right. He said that the extremely thick girdle and type of setting meant at these claws were best, but he amended the claws to double prongs by 8am and they are much more subtle. Pic below.

Will do a full thread with more pics in SMTB!

Wow, that was quick! Looks much better.

Much better! Enjoy your moment of proposal :wavey:

Wow! Super speedy service indeed.
Looks great!

Looks much improved, kudos to the jeweler for speedy service and good luck!

Thanks all. By way of background, I actually got engaged in February. Working with this jeweller has been a very testing experience. I had originally approached him last December to source a stone for the February proposal; however, he was taking ages to do this. I eventually sourced my own stone, after the proposal, in May, following a lot of research (especially on here!) and we finalised our design in mid-late July. He has been exceptionally slow/lazy/uncommunicative throughout the entire ring-making process, and we did consider switching jewellers a number of times. However, luckily, he has made something in the end which is exactly what we wanted and which my fiancée is simply over the moon with. It was, perhaps, worth the wait only because of this, but it really has been a frustrating time getting to this stage. So it's bitter-sweet in that sense, but at least we're both very happy with the ring now.
