CUSHION HELP NEEDED

I prefer the GOG stone between the 2...

The only thing I don't like about the GOG stone is that it's faces up smaller because it's very deep. But other than that... the GOG one would be my preference, just because it looks bright and has nice crown height. But it is a color grade lower, so that's another consideration.

I think that you should get both sent to you in person and decide between them IRL. Then send back the one you don't want. That's what I would do. I would let my eyes decide. Or the eyes of an independant appraiser.

Now that''s an interesting setting for a cushion ! !

Do you know who made it?

Guys, I pushed the breakes on. I realized that precipiated purchase would not do us any good . So, I will make a decision next week.

Here is the problem I''m facing - my budget is 3K for the diamond. Plus, I want to spend another $500 on a white gold setting.

On the setting, my inspiration is very HIGH (for the budget). SO i need help also:

Bottom line is, after a few suggestions I realized the halo could be an issue for day to day use (and for sparkles). In addition, I don''t like prongs on top of the shank and much prefer the curvy ones (instead of straight ones). I REALLY like the way the diamond sits on the link above.

Do you guys have any suggestion on a setting that could be a unexpenside alternative for the artofplatinum above.

I appreciate your help building this together with me.

Alex

I''m working with Union Diamond. Did you like the setting?

Honestly, I was on the fence. To me, it looked liked the setting was done for a round? I was hoping for a more "cushiony" halo.

The person who is helping me aid I won;t find anything better for my 3.5K budget. Do you guys agree?

I actually much prefer stone #1. It faces up bigger and it's an H v. an I color....In my opinion, e/t the GOG may have great light return (#1 may also have it), you still will be able to see color imo. I like the look of #1 and the cert and stone look good.

I also like the *very* slight rectangular shape of #1...it will still look square when set and will help it not look like a round which my square cushion does. Also, I find that the L to W will help to elongate and make the stone look bigger!

Now you got me...I''m just new on this :)

Honestly, I don''t know the difference. Please explain.

I was using Tiffany Novo as a reference. But, at this point, I am trying to learn as much as I can. So, your opinion is truly appreciated. Is there a cushion that is better between the two? She is more on the contemporary side (likes BIG and SPARKLY and WE DON''T WANT THE YELLOWISH FEEL)

Suggestions are TRULY appreciated.

Tks, AS

I also say spend the $ on the stone. Those halos really need to be custom in my opinion to look good. How about just a pave band? Best of luck!

p.s. Ignore the description on the cert! Use your eyes to judge....#2 cert reminds me of a cushette princess-like cushion but it doesn't look like one...just use your eyes....

Thank you guys. I am using your help a lot and I TRULY appreciate your support.

Basically, right now here is my focus:

1. I''m using Mark, Jon and my vendor on the task. I''m confident one of them will be able to come up with something cool.
2. I''m focused on GREAT square cuts without edges, 1 carat + (sparkly and not "yellowish")
3. Pavet shank and flushed basket (white gold)
4. Budget 3.5K

Although I have a BIG headache, I feel like a expert now :)

Hopefully, I will have it next week to share it with you.

Have a GREAT weekend!

$500 isn''t going to get you a quality pave setting even in WG. plain WG settings run in that range. I''d suggest putting all you money into the stone and then saving up for a reset down the road.

Ditto. Cheap pave is worse than no pave. I would not get a ''budget'' pave ring. I would much rather have a temporary plain WG setting. I have a question though. You seemed willing to buy the ready made Leon double halo ring for 5K. If you have room to increase your budget and REALLY want a pave setting, I would increase the budget enough to afford the Legato Micro pave solitare in white gold from Whiteflash for around 1100. It will give you a Novo type look, the thin band with make the center pop, and if she decides she wants a halo or something in the future it would look amazing set with a colored stone. I do not like the halo you pictured. It''s definately a square peg round hole issue. Just looks wrong.

A.S, I just feel like I should weigh on in the setting issue here - i totally agre with what has been said already, unfortunately you really don''t have much of an chance to get a decent pave or halo for $500 - sorry to burst ur bubble, but sad but true.
As a reference, I have recently been shopping for a RHR for myself and wanted to keep the setting under $1000. Granted my choices were quite narrow, and as I couldn''t find something I truly loved I didn''t want to "settle" and spend $1000 on something I wasn''t 100% on. I now think its better to save up until which time u can afford what you really want.
The best setting i could get for my needs was a plain cathedral 18k gold setting from GOG for $270, whcih was the nicest I could find in that pricerange. To be honest I probably got lucky, as most of the sites sell plain gold solitaires for average $400 and in my opinion not as nice. As u can imagine, you would be hard pressed to add pave/a halo to this for another $200...

There is a good wisdom around here for this kinda issue - go with a classic gold solitaire for the proposal, then save up while your lady decides what She really wants in her perfect setting..

If you can stretch it, I also think the suggestion for the WF setting from Gypsy could be great. I''m not sure if its ur style but I also like the flush fit. Its really classic and reasonable price ($795 for gold), looks great IRL.

Hello All, I hope you had a good weekend!

After your helpful thoughts, I decided to focus on the stone and invest on the diamond. Now, I''m researching the best cushions (or any other square cut without edges) within my budget (around 3K). The idea is to build something similar to Tiffany Novo in a simple white gold setting. Do you guys have anything in mind?

As far as the setting, it will be a thin, white old, with flushed basket. I would like to find something similar to the idea below (without the pavet of course). I don''t want straight prongs or a basket that sits on top of the shank.

Do you guys know any simple white gold setting that resemble the shape of the Tiffany''s above?

I appreciate your suggestions.

I just want to add to my last post...the idea is to forget about pavet or halo settings. The focus is on the perfect square diamond now. Ideally, the ring would be similar to Tiffany NOVO feel without any pavet. Tks, AS
