Hi

I am new here and are looking for advice regarding my e-ring upgrade. Currently, I have a 0.56ct F VVS2 Tiffany Novo and am about to upgrade to a 1ct-ish G VS2. I have read a lot about other specifications such as debth % and table % and that they are responsible for how big the stone looks and how brilliant it is. I am very confused as I found contradicting information as to what is ideal for a cushion cut diamond. Can you help me with this? What shall I look at when receiving the offer with the detailed specs?

Also are there any in there with a Tiffany Novo which is around 1.1ct? Would love to see some pictures as to how it Looks.

Many thanks for your help!!!

We don't recommend choosing cushions by specs. You will just have to use yours eyes to determine the best looking stone when it is set in a ring. Tiffany certainly has above average+ diamonds, so you aren't likely to make a big mistake! Rounds are most easy to narrow down by specs, but all loose stones are best assessed by magnifed images, tools to assess light return like idealscope or ASET, and visual inspection.

I would recommend telling them you need at least 3-4 to choose from. They can call some in for you to look at.

Here is one with a 1.49 ct stone:

Thanks for your reply. The problem is that they stock no Novo rings here which are approx. 1ct or a little bit more. So I have to first choose the ring by specs and then they can order it in (if they have such a ring) and can decide. Currently I am on the waiting list for a 1.25ct G VS2. I am a little bit worried because of the VS2 but don't want to go higher as then my budget would only allow for a smaller ct size.

At the moment they don't even have one in about 1.15-1.25ct G VS2 range. So they are not able to call in 3-4 to choose from :-(

Hi Bling,

I wouldn't worry too much with VS2 clarity, chances are good such a stone would be completely eye clean plus you would be able to see the stone in person before committing. Would you perhaps consider H colour too in order to increase your chances of finding the diamond you want more quickly?

I don't know. Currently I have an F color and I could tell the difference from H to G when the SA showed me a round cut diamond and as far as I know the cushion cut diamonds show the difference in color even more. However, if I go down with color I might could go up with ct size. It just so difficult to decide...

It could be you are someone who is colour sensitive, no problem at all, it is difficult to decide. I would consider VS clarity grades if you can spot differences in colour, that way there might not be any visual sacrifice involved as you can see the stone in person. I know it can take some time to find exactly the right stone from Tiffany depending on what's available, but I am sure it will come along. A friend of mine had to wait a long time for her upgrade from Tiffany, a 9 carat emerald cut, but she got there in the end!

A 9ct emerald cut! :o wow!!! I will probably only get a 1.25ct the most. I'm wondering if I then still think that it is too small... but here in europe people don't tend to have such big engagement rings as people in the usa do.

Be glad! I am sure 1.25 cts will be larger than most there, and that is good because Tiffany prices are so high! G VS is a very good choice and worth waiting for!

Yes Tiffany prices are indeed very high. As soon as they find a ring I will post the specs to see what you guys think. Hope it won't take too long...

As diamondseeker was saying, we cant really tell anything from the specs for cushions. We need really good images and an aset, BUT
since you are purchasing from Tiffany's I think you are in good hands. I hope they can get more than 1 in at a time and you can
pick what you like best out of them.

Why don't you get an AVC ? :cheeky:

What is an AVC ?

LOL - yes, it's fabulous!!!!! As DS says, 1.25 cts is a very healthy size, especially in Europe, you don't often see big rings here and a 1.25 Tiffany definitely falls within that category.

These AVC diamonds sound amazing. But as Lorelei said I need to stick with Tiffanys for the upgrade as my first ring comes from them. I just hope they also choose cut over weight....
