Hi Experts!

I've done a lot of research on my own, but wanted to get someone else's opinion on the below specs. I was hoping for something between 2.5-3 carat center stone and this fits in below my price range, but curious if I'm missing something. Thanks!

DIAMOND INFORMATION
SHAPE: Cushion Modified
CARAT WEIGHT: 2.71
COLOR: F
CLARITY: VS1
POLISH: Excellent
SYMMETRY: Excellent
FLUORESCENCE: Medium
L/W (MM): 7.95*7.64
L/W RATIO: 1.04

I wouldn't choose this one. It's very "mushy" in the middle and doesn't seem to have much life from the video. What is your budget, preferred color and clarity, and preferred size?

Edit. There's a reason it's priced so low for the size. It's not a good performer (IMHO)

Thanks for the feedback @lovedogs! This is why I came to the forum! Would like to keep the loose diamond under 30k if possible, 2.6-3 carat based on what we've tried on, color G+, and clarity SI1 would be the lowest but this is admittedly where I get a bit confused with the comparisons.

Thank you for the help!

Do you know what kind of cushion she likes? For example, some people like the "crushed ice" look, and others want a cushion with defined facets.

Examples:
Obviously over budget but showing an example of a cushion that's cut to perform like a h&a round. These are my personal favorite, but obviously not everyone feels the same.

And here is another style of cut. It's not the best example or anything, but it's the X style of cut.

Another X style from JA

And here's a "true heart" from ja. My phone won't let me see the h&a images , but worth looking into.

Just wanted to show you different examples of cut with the above examples. Do you have a sense of what she would like? Or If she prefers the "crushed ice" look where the facets are less defined?

If the X style cut is desirable, these 2 might be worth looking at. One is over 30k but comes with a free ring (up to 1500) right now bc of the special they are running, so might end up being the same price as a stone that's 2850 without a free ring.

Another one I like, and it's cheaper. I like the first one above more bc it's "crisper".

I should have been a little more clear! She would lean more towards defined facets, but has liked some of the "crushed ice" style when looking at them in the store. These ones in the last post are fantastic, and I do love the first one and the X style is certainly more of what I'm looking for! Really appreciate the help! I'm hoping to find something in the next week or 2 and this has given me some added knowledge.

Yay, glad to help! Just FYI we get a ton of lurkers who buy stones we recommend (very rude, but no way to stop them). So if you like any of the ones I posted enough to seriously consider buying, I'd put them on hold . At least for a few days while you decide. JA will hold stones for up to 3 days, I think.

I’m going to tag @mrs-b She picked out my cushion diamond and it is a sparkle bomb. Mine has chunky facets in the x style..Mine is in my avatar. Hopefully she will see this..Good luck!

Hi @Beaman1717 -

Firstly, *not* the one you linked to up the top. It's dead to the point of showing a brown tint around the middle. So that's not the stone for you.

I don't use the James Allen site any more. Since they stopped providing GIA certs on their site, it's simply too time consuming to discuss every single stone with a sales assistant, and I won't recommend a stone whose GIA or AGS cert I can't see.

I'm not a big fan of the Brian Gavin Diamond cushions. To my way of thinking, if you want a hearts and arrows stone, buy a round brilliant. The BGD signature cushion looks like a round with the edges straightened up; ie not distinctive enough as a cushion, and not a round either. So a tad in no man's land.

While I'm not anti crushed ice cushions, there are still ones with and without defined faceting. Faceting means light return, which is - surely - the point of a diamond, so if you want to go the crushed ice route, make sure you still look for discernible faceting in the heart of the stone.

I had a thorough look around the BN website and found one cushion I think is outstanding:

https://www.bluenile.com/diamond-de...DiamondDetails&action=newTab&catalogView=true

Its faceting is clean from every angle, it's WHITE and very clean, and it has a nicely rounded profile more reminiscent of older cushions. A cushion should be 'cushiony' - not too square - so the softness of shape is important.

This one is well within your budget, it's almost exactly the same surface area as the one you first posted, and I think it hits all your requirements. It does have fluorescence, but that's neither here nor there to me; some people love it, some don't. Unless it's in the middle of a 3 stone setting, and it's important to match it to the other 2 side stones, I don't think it matters one way or the other. A lot of people think it's a very cool feature and it keeps the price down, which is a bonus.

Good luck on your search @Beaman1717 - and thanks for linking me, @Mamabean. :))

This is a stunner @Beaman! I would put this one on hold before someone snatches it up! :kiss2: @mrs-b!

@mrs-b Thank you!!! this is gorgeous, putting it on hold now!

You're welcome - and I am SO pleased. This one was a standout in their catalogue of stones; BN's catalogue ebbs and flows - sometimes lots of great stones - sometimes...not so many.... But in any company, this one is a stunner. Definitely a stone a girl could be proud of.

And please re-consign that James Allen stone to hell. The middle 50%...goodness me...

You're very welcome, Beaman :)) Who set it for you, in the end?

And congratulations! :wavey:
