I am very picky about fruit and vegetables and usually buy every other day (we have several local organic farm stands on our markets etc ). I have bought frozen vegetables and fruit from a high end specialized frozen food chain. They are quite good quality wise. Nutrition-wise they might not be on par, just pretty close to fresh.

No frozen vegetables anywhere around us anymore.

I usually buy my fresh fruits and vegetables from the wet market, every day or every other day. But that's completely shut too.

I’m not sure what the answer is but, when over 70s are being told to fully isolate but they can’t even book food deliveries for any time in the next few weeks (and it’s happening on two different continents!), something most certainly needs to be done.

My thoughts exactly.

I think the French president promised to do something about it. In Germany different clubs who can't do their usual activities together decided to use that time for grocery deliveries to the elderly instead. :kiss2:

:(

Produce is my favorite food. I could survive on just produce. Wish we had our own farm.

Here the supermarket shelves are empty at night, but restocked in the am. Some stuff I want though, isn't there.
I find that pricier and specialised (organicetc. ) options were my best bet...

That is generally all I purchase. Organic produce. At this point in time I will take what I can get re produce. This is becoming more and more surreal. I keep thinking this is not happening. It's like when our Francesca died. I wasn't fully accepting the reality. I couldn't believe she was gone. In a way this is like that. I just cannot fully wrap my head around what is happening.

It sounds odd, but at this time I think that’s a healthy psychological response. I believe our brain is wired to protect us, like the numb feeling of grief protects us until we can start to process reality in bite sizes. I’m also experiencing a slightly floaty, surreal, disbelief feeling and quite frankly I think I’m glad that I am. It’s not head-in-the-sand, it’s the sheer magnitude of what’s happening; it’s so far out of the normal that’s it’s not processable straight away.

oh for goodness sake
what is wrong with people ?
there isnt a shortage of food its just selfish people hording
if i could I'd sling you a few packets of frozen veg Missy
i actually ordered less than usual this week as i had a stock take of the freezer first rather than ordering the usual 4x packs of minted peas, corn, green beans and spinach (we shop fortnightly)

the other day on tv the head of the South Canterbury arm of Federated farmers said his one region produces enough food for 40 million people
we only have 4.5 million people in out entire country and that is just one part of it

That is what I hope. That there is no shortage of food and that there will be no shortage of food. That it is *just* people panicking and hoarding. I wish we would all stock up on common sense and be more calm about this because hoarding is hurting others. :(

And thanks @Daisys and Diamonds for your kind and generous wishes. Same here.
Hugs.

yes that makes sense. @lissyflo I still cannot accept the reality my baby girl is gone and this almost feels second to that if you kwim. I agree the brain can only process so much. I cry every day still over her and Fred and tears are going down my face as I type this. I am sorry to be such a downer. I have to buck up and be strong and snap out of this grief because right now our energy needs to be on getting through Covid-19 and dealing with the panicked masses too.

I keep saying to myself we are all going to be OK. One day at a time.

In their minds they’re rationalizing it (90 cans of corn) but fact is it’s not right. Plain and simple.

Thanks Daisy. Hugs to you and Boris and Tibby❤️.

You’re not a downer at all, in fact you’re one of the most positive people on the board. We all have to grieve for people and pets we love, and it’s definitely not something you should expect yourself to snap out of because of other events in the world. I know you know that but just wanted to say it out loud. Thinking of you.

We have several farms around where you can pick your own organic . It's wonderful and my only choice, since I absolutely SUCK at gardening.. My DH calls me the plant killer (affectionately)

We did a big Costco run yesterday and a few trader joe's run earlier in the week and we've got a lot of food - hopefully enough. Trying to eat our fresh stuff now and then will get into the frozen. I made Shepherd's pie on Sunday for yesterday. I'll probably get a red sauce going in the slow cooker shortly. I hope everyone is ok! :wavey:

Oh and I'm grateful to have lots of lotion! My hands have been sooo dry because of more frequent handwashing. so I think lotion is going to be the next in demand hot item lol! Thankfully I have lots because I'm very particular. Pure shea butter has been the only thing helpful.

Shops are bare here too, people need to stop going crazy, nobody needs to have dozens and dozens of anything, especially toilet paper.

We’re trying not to be selfish and only buy what we need, when we can, but unless everyone else does the same, the shops are going to be continually bare.

my online grocery order arrived
i got a 12 pack of loo roll that will last 3 weeks so next fortnight ill just buy a 4 pack - this is how i usually do it

last night i went to bed so angry after reading about that person buying 90 tins of corn

today my butter didn't arrive which is a pain because i stocked up on baking supplies
1kg caster sugar
1kg corn flour
1 small bottle of vinnila
i small box of cinnamon
because we have completly run out of those items

i will have to go for a walk to our smaller neighbourhood supermarket and spend an extra dollar to get the butter ...a really nice gentle picturesque walk well worth a buck

people are getting really sick, people are dying, people are lossing their jobs and the economy is in a right pickle - these are the real things to worry about

but cows still make milk to make butter
the corn harvest is just finishing up
the toilet paper factory is working 24 7
not everything in the world is broken

And I'll be cutting my husband's hair for the first time in our 19 years of married life! He just ordered up a kit and said I was going to have a new title. I told him I have already assumed the role of homeschool teacher, and he said well now you are going to be a hairdresser.
I did this yesterday and at the end, I told DH he should just shave his head. LOL!

I haven't stock up on anything. I was (am) super busy at work and I live in a small apartment. I go to the store every other day and just buy what's left. Thankfully my scheduled toilet paper delivery came through this month so I have some for the month. If we run out there's always the shower! lol I'm trying to not panic and be practical. I can stretch things for 2 weeks if we eat everything in our pantry. I only have 25 lbs of jasmine rice left, so perhaps we can take that opportunity to cut down on simple carbs...I did sort of stock up on chocolates but just discovered my husband ate ALL of it when I was looking for some today. I bought like 10 bars (from TJ) last Friday. :x2:cry2: I waited hours. He's supposed to cut down on sugar.

I will buy/eat fresh meat/produce until they run out, then I'll start on the frozen in my freezer. I'm still kinda bummed about the chocolates, will have to go look for some tomorrow. Hopefully if we get sick I can order food delivery, we don't usually eat out but I have been considering take outs for 2x a week.

It's so surreal. I'm a former refugee and trying not to be scared. I can't believe I'm working 12 hours a day on excel/writing things when it seems like the world is falling apart. It seems silly.

For the first time ever I just bought 4 chocolate bars from Amazon...I never stock up per se on chocolate as I am not really a chocolate lover so much. But lately I find craving it so not being able to eat the regular chocolate (I cannot do dairy plus other ingredients are not advised for me) I found this vegan chocolate that is pretty yummy IMO. Found it at our local supermarket and got a bar and each week I have been getting another bar. A few days ago they were out and told me they aren't getting chocolate supplies for some reason. So I went onto Amazon and for a little more money I bought a package of 4. I will (well I hope to anyway lol) make it last and have no plans to stock up but for buying the one package of 4.

Has anyone here tried this chocolate? It's called Hu. "No weird ingredients ever"
Haha love that motto.

I'm craving fresh fruits and veggies, so whenever we send my daughter out, we get whatever they have, with an eye on things that we can also use in baking. It's so hard to avoid carbs right now. I don't really eat bread, but have been craving it. It seems like we're all craving chocolate too? I guess this is a normal response to stress?

@MakingTheGrade my DD2 stocked up on packaged ramen on her own. She ordered a bunch of stuff from Amazon and is storing it in her room. Ramen bowls were the last thing we got from a restaurant actually.

Our local Trader Joes has come up with a great system. They will only allow 5 people in at one time, while waiting in line you must stay 6 feet away and when entering the store, they will sanitize your hands as well as on the way out. Each shopper is only allowed to have 2 of one certain item. I was able to get fresh produce and a few frozen items however, there were not any paper supplies around. We have enough to sustain us for about 3 weeks. The less I go into a public grocery store, the less I am exposed. Wishing all of you well.
