Considering this 3.39 K SI1 OEC diamond, would like opinion

I've been eyeing up this diamond for a few weeks now and am thinking of heading up to New York to see it. Before, I do, I would like the opinion of some of our OEC experts. Right now I have a 2.21 D SI2 MRB for my center stone in my engagement ring, and after a rough patch, my SO thought that a new beginning required a new diamond. I do consider myself color sensitive. I think it is either a new diamond cut to be an OEC, or a recut.

Love the faceting. Nice crisp petals. Color looks good too. My only concern is that the deep center looks a little dark indicating poor light return but it is hard to tell from the video

My concern too. How far is NY from you? Can you easily go see it? Because I also really like the faceting! And a K in an OEC will face up pretty white....
 
I'm going to be the odd one out, I don't like the facet pattern the centre area is a real mess, you need to see it in person to see if the tiny table, and good depth gives it lots of fire IRL or makes the centre area dark, old cuts are notoriously difficult to photograph, so it might be O.K. And each old cut is unique one person't preference might not be the same as another that is the beauty of old cuts.

It looks like it has a lot of leaky facets under the table... pass.

NYC is a only a 60 mile train ride each way. However, the vendor is only open Monday through Friday; therefore, I'd have to take a day off of work to go look at it.

I have been looking for stones that do meet the OEC criteria, but have been wondering if I should also consider stones that they consider to be Circular Brilliant. I know what GIA's criteria is for the them to consider the cut to be an OEC, would like to hear from the experts on what table size and depth work out the best to create a diamond with a nice flower pattern.
 
That table is 50, and I really prefer under 50 for an OEC. I wouldn't get too involved with numbers, though, because you absolutely have to go by visual information to choose an OEC. A very deep one will have the disadvantage of facing up smaller, but this one was not overly deep. I'd keep looking. It's pretty. I personally like the facet pattern and if it looks as good in hand as the video I would consider it a beautiful OEC. I also appreciate that the girdle is not extremely thin in parts like the majority of OEC's I see for sale.
 
There's additional videos on IG that make me think it's worth the visit - this one shows a lovely pattern around the edges and the centre looks like it's lighting up when moved around and not staying dark.

Alrighty, trip to New York City is planned for this Friday. Can't wait to see this diamond in person.

I'd like to pose more questions: Might it be worthwhile to have it re-cut without losing too much weight and spread for better performance? Any idea how much weight might be lost?

I really like it from what I've seen. I know, I should love it, but hoping that will happen on Friday. Having gained alot of diamond knowledge through Pricescope, I am looking for a stone as close to perfect as I can find. I know old OECs were notoriously deep, and this one is, too. I do know that you have to see the diamond in person to see how it performs, my MRB was a perfect example: having a VG cut grade, it still performed better than a 3 EX diamond that was also in contention. My other reservation is color: my MRB is a D, this is a K. My SO pointed out that he didn't think I'd be able to tolerate the color difference. Again, have to see it in person. The goal is to go bigger, but with quality stone. This diamond (3.39 ct) is a full millimeter bigger than my MRB (2.21 ct). I'll find out all of this information on Friday.

As i suspected, it is leaky in the facets under the table.
 
I have also a 1.72 ct D VS2 diamond in my ering, and was also consered with color. I've bought an N 2.86 carat from LAD and since then I wear it every day. Yes there is a buttery tint, but it's not yellow, even not an N. I'm convinced your K is going to look beautiful colorwise. To judge the cut, I'm not an expert, but take a look at it, and you will know!!

I'm just wondering if a recut of the lower facets can give me ideal light performance. Aside from seeing the light leakage under the table, it appears to be a great stone.

I'm not loving the bits I've circled - might be the photographs but when I looked at the pics, it was all I could see

I assume (?) it's the leakage ROL mentioned since it shows up in the imaging too. Hopefully it's not so obvious in real life/in motion because I really like it otherwise - size, colour, the rest of the faceting. That circle at the centre just draws my eye in the pics so would bug me if that's how it looks in person.

Based on the first video, the stone is very lively. I do see the asymmetry of the facets under the table. However, although asymmetrical, to my eyes they do light up. I think you will need to see it to determine if you like it. Since you are already going to be in NYC, I would look for Adam at Old World Diamonds to see what he has. If you can find a more symmetrical, better cut stone with Adam, you can at least look at it and determine whether the lack of symmetry on the 3.39 bothers you. If I were you, I would want to know what I was missing before I committed. Good luck!! Let us know how it goes.

And I should have mentioned I went from an F MRB to a K OEC. No regrets. I see the difference in color, but in an OEC, color functions differently. Attached is my thread going from F to K and the second thread is when I was asking for people's opinions about the transition. Hope these help.

So glad to hear this. I was pretty sure she was a beauty by her photos and video. OEC's IMHO are more than the stats. They either have a unique charm and beauty that says "This one is mine" or they are just another diamond.
