Update:
Deposit sent and received. Jeff will be cutting the stone this week. I have requested the before and after pictures to feed the Pricescope wolves. I too am very excited about this project and have started thinking about settings already!

Nothing yet, just toying around with ideas.

Metal: Either white or pink gold.
Extra bling: No pave, preferably. Either bead set, shared prong or plain band.
Prongs: Ribbon, single (tapered) or double prongs
Setting: I don't think I'll go bezel on this.

I noticed that I really like low set stones. I have one gorgeous antique ring but because the center stone is set high, I hardly wore it. This is going to be a tough requirement I think.

Oh My God (and I'm not even remotely religious)! My stone is being cut right now.

I've been sent a before and during picture. I think it'll be completed by the end of the day today too. I wonder if I should hold out until I get the final picture to post it all at one time...

Anyway, it looks like the pink really appears more saturated with the right cut. It is fabulously awesome! I am so glad I didn't pick the darker pink (purplish) rough. The final measurements looks like a 6.5mm asscher. Jeff is cutting it with extra facets to mimic the Royal Asscher cut with 6 steps in the pavilon instead of the usual 3 steps.

Okay, I''ll be nice. Here is the before picture of the native cut. It appears to be a very light pink, has a noticeable window, a cummerband bowtie and lots of extinction (black areas). Not too hot looking, is it? I think the size is close to 2 carats.

A picture of the recut in the works. Pavilion is done, and the table is still dopped and uncut. You can see the busy steps (6 full steps ala Royal Asscher). The colour appears to be stronger and saturated since the recut. I guess with the right angles, the richness of the pink is able to show through better.

FG,
I think the 2nd picture is cool too.

I like being able to see the details in that picture: the steps, the "glue", the fineness of the tool. I just surprised by how much the stone has improved in colour just by recutting the bottom. I can't wait to see the table when he is done. I have been checking my email numerous times today in hopes of receiving a picture of the completed stone.

Well, what do you think? If you don''t like it, I can take the criticism (although I would be heartbroken). I think Jeff did a great job. As you can see, the difference between the original native cut and the asscher re-cut is like night and day. Originally, I was hesitant about using the native stone because I thought the pink looked too light so I kept looking for other rough but all the rest were way over my budget (3 to 4 times the price of this baby). The recut really brought out the pinkness and I can''t wait to get my hands on it. It''ll probably be sometime next week before it gets to me though with the Monday being a holiday.

Beautiful! This clearly shows how important cutting is to the appearance of a stone. I just LOVE the color.
