Hi all...and appreciate your time reading this.

Imminently ordering an engagement ring off James Allen. Initially didn't want to go below an E colour as don't want any warmth but I've read that once the diamonds are mounted then there's not much difference to the eye in going as far down as a H. Also the latter is more within budget.

My diamond will be set on a pave ring with smaller diamonds within the F-G range.

My question is will the H central diamond appear dull/warm alongside the F-G side diamonds. I really don't want this.

I've also been looking at zero fluorescence. But read somewhere that fluorescence can minimise the warmth in a diamond?

Any help at all is greatly appreciated.

Thank you all.

I initially wanted to stay in the FED range as well, but have since refined my search to include G and H diamonds. At the end of the day, I knew people wouldn't be examining the diamond at high magnifications or comparing it with other diamonds side-by-side, so I decided to consider more G and H diamonds. To me, it seems like it won't make THAT much of a difference, especially to the untrained eye and when considering well cut diamonds, can be a way to save money.

Also, it appears you're looking on James Allen. Each pave band has an "average color" guide that tells you the color diamond that goes well with the pave setting. That information has been helpful in my search.

My thoughts exactly...appreciate your input. Won't be going lower than a H or a SI2,

I thought the average colour guide was regarding the diamonds within the ring setting and not a recommendation for the centre diamond? I could be wrong though.

Thanks again for your help.

You are correct njones. The consensus is that the melee will almost always look whiter than the bigger stone due to the size of the
smaller stones. The bigger the stone the more color you will see. Normally if you are having a custom ring made we say to stay
within 2 color grades of the big stone which you are.

Also, if you go to the James Allen page and look below the setting you can see that setting with different colored stones. See if
you can tell the difference. The color difference (or lack of color difference) does not bother most people.

Edit...do you have a link to that stone? Is that the IGI stone?

Thank you tyty333. Just looked at that pave setting and it's pictured with a G VS-2 pear...and looks amazing! Well...to my completely untrained eye.

There isn't an IS image available for this particular diamond as it's located in Asia...should I steer clear or go with my instincts, GIA report and characteristics/technology on the JA website?

Am I right in seeing a lot of leakage? And little brilliance?

Well, yes. Some of it is the nature of the cut. Pears inherently have a lot of leakage. Ideally what you want to find is a
stone that extends that center area of crisp, clear facets as far as possible down towards the tip and up towards the rounded end.

I looked around and didnt see any in your size/budget. I think if you go down to 1 carat in your budget we will be able to find
some nicer stones. When I get a chance I will look and post some other possibilities.

Here is one that looks like it has a wider area (would like to see even wider area) of crisp facets.

Thank you tyty333!! They are v interesting indeed...will have a proper look. Put the following on hold with JA whilst I await further imagery from them. Not sure the link will work when "on hold"...

Curious about this one...looks like it has a large area returning light but cant say much about the faceting pattern...not as
organized as I like to see.

This one could be interesting too.

Unfortunately, I'm not seeing any that say "I'm the one."

Thoughts on this ASET anyone? Have it on hold. 1.01C, E, SI1, $4,900

I accept the leakage will be higher in Pear. Red, blue, green across centre looks good...but is it generally too green/white? Any thoughts really appreciated. screen_shot_2016-09-22_at_07.png
