My 5.4 carat orange opal was a gem show find. It’s in an empty silver/Cz mount with wax holding it, but I have to find a worthy mounting. The stone was in a gorgeous diamond setting at the gem show, but I didn’t want to buy it because it was so expensive, so they sold me the stone!! It’s such a gorgeous orange color, and full color play, which is hard to find in Ethiopian opals. I can’t wait to set it because I love turquoise color and orange together! Maybe I can stack them! Lol!

My Rhodalite garnet and diamond Art Deco style 18k WG rind. Love this piece. So comfortable to wear to boot.

It’s a cab on top, faceted on the bottom. Can’t recall the name of that cut type :(

Wearing my trillion Tanzanite with a small melee in YG today. I joking call this my ‘trashy’ tanzanite. But I love the color and the pleochroic flashes it gives off are lively & lovely. Found it at a jewelry pawn shop auction, has been verified since.
love the shape
great find

A somewhat accurate picture of my 1.45 ct Colombian emerald. I still haven’t set it. These things are so hard to photograph, but the green of an emerald is so intense.

These two are darker and lighter than the one I just posted, both Colombian. The darker one is 2.15 cts and the lighter one sitting in an empty mount, is 2.75 cts. Both are much prettier in person. These are my loose emeralds including a 1.35 ct that is almost identical to the 1.45 ct.

It shipped!!! My engagement ring got shipped today. A gorgeous mint/pale teal Montana sapphire from Earth's Treasury and an equally gorgeous semi-custom platinum setting from BGD! I'm so excited and even my pragmatic soon to be fiance is impressed.

OOOOOHHHHH. I love this color!!! Its gorgeous. I like the setting! I love halos and everyone's rings always look pretty with them but its fun to see settings without halos. It really lets your stone be the center of attention. Very lovely!

I think so too! When researching what setting I wanted that was the first decision I made. Did I want a halo or not.
@Obscura
your stone looks like a blue diamond. It’s very lovely!
Thanks! It does look a bit like a blue diamond, but it's very moody. Sometimes various shades of blue, sometimes mint green, and sometimes even silver or nearly colorless. :D

Some spinels I kept in gem jars for years, but I’m appreciating them more since spinel prices are going crazy. They’re sitting in empty settings that are not made for them, so don’t gasp as horrible setting workmanship. These are all loose stones, but I like displaying them with bling.

Sorry for the fuzzy photos. The lighting was terrible.

9 carat morganite I’ve had for decades. It’s too big for any setting and it blends in with my skin color, so I think it would best in a black rhodium setting. It’s just too huge, 16x12mm, so it sits around unset, but it has its own light saber!

I think it would make a fab cocktail ring or pendant!

How about a black onyx halo? For ring or pendant. That would make it pop. Or a ruby or sapphire or emerald or purple amethyst halo? I think this is going to be gorgeous however you set it. Love the size and shape and soft color. You just need a colored gem halo to make the color contrast and the stone pop.

Those are gorgeous!!! They remind me of various colors of sherbet.

I don’t know, I just think a colored setting makes it look washed out. I don’t think it looks that great in any metal or halo, but thanks. It’s obviously too big for this setting, just using it as a stone holder. It’s a pale pinkish orange.

Blah!

I see what you mean. Definitely too washed out. But I’m wondering if someone could do a mock up of this with an onyx halo. Maybe that would look better than other colored gem settings? Or a more deep blue /purple etc.

@missy - thanks but it’s not worth it. It will be put back in the gem jar. I can’t force myself to like certain gems I own, which is a good lesson that you should always buy what you love, not just what you can afford, but feel meh about. :(2

Yeah probably the best thing to do and I feel your disappointment. :(( I’ve done things like that too. And it generally comes down to the fact not getting what you want in the first place doesn’t scratch that itch. :(2

Maybe put it up for sale on loupe troop? Maybe it will be someone’s dream gem.

I don’t sell my gems because I have gem hoarding issues, lol! I sold a few and have regrets. I honestly don’t know how people can part with some of the gorgeous things they sell.

I’m a big talker. The only thing I’ve ever sold (not counting homes that is lol) is Bea. And only because I had to in order to afford Bubbalah. And I don’t regret it because it was the buyer’s dream ring. So I got my dream ring and she got hers. Win win completely. But I hear you on not wanting to part with any bling. Just thinking out loud. If you had your eye on something you loved this might be a way to make that dream come true. Especially if you can’t enjoy this gem. But I get it. And being a collector is satisfying too.

Medium toned 2.75 ct Columbian emerald loose in a rose gold setting.

Color and tone are modified to show true hue.

I bought this stone about 30 years ago for around $1200, which was a ton of $$$ for me back then. I posted it above, but this is more accurate for color. Incandescent light. The clarity has not changed at all to my eyes, so I don’t think it’s heavily treated. Resin usually dries up over time and is very noticeable. It has jardin, but is still transparent.

A little purchase and little emerald but it just grabbed me. I am not a green anything person, but this little baby had to be mine.
