Trying to take photo of a synthetic ruby I once won. I don't remember who was the cutter - someone good but the name was new to me

I only had a bit of time last evening before the natural light faded so first impression is that it’s a bit more purplish than I prefer. Not unexpected from the pic on the website and absolutely gorgeous cut obviously.

Wow, it’s even more brilliant in your photo! I agree that the cutting is spectacular! Sorry it’s not the perfect color for you. Do you think you’ll keep it?

I think so... wondering how to set it actually... am planning to use it as a training stone before I venture into the real stuff... there are some stones I’ve loved for a long time (like star sapphires n moonstones) and some that I’m exploring and sapphire belongs to the latter.

How many pictures is too many pictures? My lab emerald from @PrecisionGem is here and it’s freaking gorgeous. Having never seen one in person, I don’t know if this is what a top quality emerald looks like. But if it is...hot damn! This is perfection!

This looks a lot like my Jeff White sapphire. I was surprised how much purple it had too, not quite what I expected. I was expecting more blue. It's growing on me though, and I actually DO prefer more purple sapphire and I think yours look gorgeous from that photo. LOVE the cut, it really makes the stone glitter.

Erm... I did also just buy a CBI diamond, a Jeff Dyer topaz, a purple fwp ripe, a purple jadeite pendant and am eyeing a pair of glassy jade cabs for earrings... I probably need to go cold turkey for a while and stay off Ps lol.

Oh is purple good? I like vivid bright blues but this isn’t ugly by any account... and of course the cutting is fab.

As for setting, I’m not sure how to set so am looking for inspirations now...

I want to set it right now but I have to wait to build up some funds. Right now I'm thinking a solitaire style with diamonds on the shank. Something to let the main stone shine.

See above. I will admit that there's a part of me that just wants to shove it in a plain (aka inexpensive) Stuller just so I can start wearing it.

Pretty much all my videos sound like that. Those are my beautiful babies making that obnoxious racket. I've got 4 dogs so it can get pretty loud. The pugs tend to pant a lot...and it doesn't help that it's so hot outside (but heaven forbid mommy leave them in the nice and cool house all alone ).

Does anyone have any good red/crimson stones (I'm on mobile so haven't scoured this entire thread yet)? I was eyeing MCo's ruby because I want a good solid red/crimson color stone in a size that I cannot justify spending the $$$ on to go natural (8-9mm) for a setting I love. They look pretty but haven't seen any IRL pics.

An acquaintance of mine is a gem cutting hobbyist, and he sent me a precision cut cobalt blue spinel. He describes it as “blue kryptonite” and I can’t say he’s wrong! It is very, very BLUE and almost seems to glow.
