Has anyone seen this before? I can’t tell if it is just a very thin area in the girdle, an extra facet there, or a chip in the girdle. I have attached a couple of photos:

Did the grading report for the stone mention an indented natural or an extra facet was present on the plot diagram?

No, there was no mention of an extra facet nor indented natural on the GIA cert.

I would reach out to WF.

You’re talking about this area?

I see it now. Just to the left of where I circled in the first image.

Certainly looks to be a little unusual. Wondering if it is an optical illusion or whether something more serious. Do you have a loupe you can use to look at that area on the girdle with a little more magnification?

Looks like a natural to me. Call the seller and ask questions. Did you take that picture or did they?

Thank you for your input. I took the photos. I reviewed the cert again and it actually does mention an indented natural (I didn’t see it before). I asked a local appraiser to comment and he said the same thing. I guess I feel better about it now. Still deciding whether to keep it. Do you think the natural would increase risk of damage to the stone?

A natural is a facet that is part of the original rough crystal. Would not pose an issue for me.

Was it a Premium Select? If so, I would suggest keeping it. If it was from Virtual Inventory, I would return it. That would have nothing to do with damage and everything to do with upgrade policy :wink2:

Thanks for the comments. The stone is a premium select. Like you said, I think we are leaning towards keeping the stone--mainly because of the upgrade policy!

increases the risk of chipping by 1 in 100.
not a big deal. If all else is good relax

"A natural is a facet that is part of the original rough crystal. Would not pose an issue for me."

A "natural" is not a facet or a chip. Correctly, it is the skin of the original crystal which was left unfinished. It poses virtually no risk.

Thanks for the correction in terminology @oldminer
