I found this one on Brilliant Earth and then after thinking maybe it was a good choice I googled the GIA cert # and found the same stone for sale here for $1000 less here. But anyhow I feel like I know just enough to be dangerous in this whole stone searching question.

I am thinking of a settling with sapphire sidestones so I seemed like the J might be okay or at least less important vs the cut and size. But again open to anyones thoughts.

The stone is a 60/60 which is a traditional style of modern round brilliant. It has a good HCA. If they can give you and idealscope image that would be recommended.

As for Sapphires. Just make sure they are NICE blue ones, not black/navy ones. And I'd go to someone with a good reputation with nice sapphires not to a stock diamond dealer setting for that.

Thanks for the comments Gypsy as well as the comment about the saphires. So I am looking at a ring like http://www.brilliantearth.com/Willow-Diamond-Ring-White-Gold-BE156-192670/.

But with saphires in the place of the .15ct diamonds on the side. But a good point for the importance of quality side stones. I am not sure how to achive that in this case other than a reputable jewler. And without totally cross posting my post in jewlery that is my other delema I would like a setting like the linked one but with Brilliant earth wanting $1200 more for the same diamond I am not sure they are worth it. On the plus side they have provided pictures of a simmilar ring they have done with a princess cut center stone and it does look very nice.

The vendor will have options when they source the sapphires. Tell them you want cornflower/medium blue stones, not dark stones. There might be an upcharge, but it is worth it.

That's a pretty setting you chose. Nice job!

Thank you Ice_baby & Gypsy for the color name. I feel like I need to break out my box of crayons sometimes to describe the shades of blue. I knew I wanted a "light" one but was not sure what the term was.

As for the setting the trick is finding someone who will make it and sell me a diamond for a reasonable price. I found a simmilar but not quite as nice setting on deBebians site and what looks like the same on mdcdiamonds. But the reviews here for mdcdiamonds are not great.

So right now the question is how much is it worth overpaying for a rock if they have the "right" setting? :(

I don't think you have to overpay by $1000.
I'd call them and DO NOT MENTION you LOVE their setting.

Just say that you want that rock, but you saw it elsewhere for much less and give them the link. Then mention, casually, that you think they have better setting selection so you were wondering if they would be willing to negotiate the price of the diamond. IMO if you can get them to take 500 off that diamond, it's worth it to get the right setting.

You just need to be persuasive, nice... but not too eager.

Gypsy's suggestion is great, hopefully they can accommodate you. If not why not order the diamond and the setting separately and find some one local to set the stone. You should be able to find a jewler to set the center for $50-120 depending on who.

Brilliant Earth will not sell their settings without a diamond. :( Doing some searching to get to the bottom of the diamond price difference and to see if someone else does the same setting.

Yes kemurphy I saw that one I can't find a lot pro or con about them.

I also found https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?...55558542.63705.158873967471648&type=1&theater But it doesnt look quite the same and I can't exactly figure out why. Maybe a larger stone vs the brilliant earth picture. Has anyone worked with DeBebians?

Also the original diamond in question is now unavailable but DeBebians suggested these two which both seem very good.

1.13 J/VS2 EX cut
Measures 6.74x6.77mm
60.1% depth, 59% table, 32.5° crown angle, 41° pavilion angle
GIA 2136930352
$4840

Seems really good I googled the GIA # and didnt see it online anywhere else and the cert is from Sept 2012. Is there any alarm bells with respect to a stone that was cert-ed so long ago? My initial thought was that if a stone was good after a cert it would be snatched up but maybe I am missing something.

Hi Kenzie,

I can't help you with the specs but I don't think 2012 is that old and maybe someone just decided to sell it and when they do the certs reenter the market too.
