Hey guys,

I got to see this ring today but there is an inclusion I'm concerned about. It appears to break the surface, for reference this is a Victorian ring with old mine cut stones and this center is 1/2 carat.

Sorry if these pictures aren't the best, I can try to get better ones. I guess my concern is the stability of this diamond, if this is something to be expected in a Victorian piece?

Those are feathers, there appear to be 2 larger ones at 9 o’clock and 11 o’clock in the head on photo; look to be eye visible?

Thanks @EC8, for how prominent they look magnified, the ring still has a lot of sparkle and is prettier in person than I would expect:

Do you feel anything running a fingernail over the spot?

I tried this and I do believe that it is on the surface but the stone is kind of small so it's hard to tell

If you can feel it then its a probably a chip in my personal opinion.
I cant give a professional opinion having not seen it in person.

@Karl_K, I took another look with a stronger loupe and yes it does look like a chip, thanks for your help!

I think it's really pretty if the price is right!

@Ontheblackrock15, it's pretty but the inclusion right in the center stone is too bothersome to me so I will be passing on this.

It is really gorgeous! I'm sure you were tempted!

Would you pass on it? Sometimes I wonder if I am too fussy, but maybe it's a good thing to weed out a good majority of potential items.

It also looks like a chip to me. But I’m no expert.

It depends on the price. No one except you will see that inclusion/chip.
The average viewer would just be blown away by all the sparkle.
But if you are bugged by that inclusion, then you will never really love the ring.

Thanks @caf I think so too, I have never seen a chip like this before so I was rather surprised when I louped it.

I feel like if it bothers you now, it's likely to always bother you

From regular viewing distance you likely won’t notice it at all and it does have a rather large and lovely presence with lots of sparkle. If mind clean is important to you then I would pass. If you would be sad to see it go, and would be hard pressed to replace it at that price point, then I would keep it!! Am I helping?!

There are plenty more rings like this. I would not settle for one with chips and feathers. I'd personally rather pay more for good quality.

Kinda cool to look at, right? But sad that it chipped! I guess I’d pass unless you are ok eventually replacing that diamond.
