Hello!! :wavey:

I am thinking about resetting one of my diamonds. The problem I have with the current setting is that it is very bulky and I also feel like my diamond doesn't look completely "round". I love three stones so i was thinking of making it a 6 prong with pear sides. Can anyone help me with a photo to add pears and 6 prongs? Or give some ideas how to maximize the round look for my diamond??

I hope this makes sense.
Thanks!!IMG_2942.jpegIMG_2947.jpeg

Gorgeous diamond you have! I am no help with photoshop, but I am sure that others will come to the rescue!

I do have a three stone with 6 prongs on center and small round stones with 3 prongs each. I can share a pic for you, but I have also always loved pear sides!F1777140-17D9-44E4-85B3-F04437CA7B44.jpeg

I *could* do it, if I can find a similar setting. The problem I see in doing a quick search is - most of the three stone rings w/pear sides I see, the center stone has four prongs or double claw prongs like yours.

Do you happen to have a pic of what you’re looking to to have that you can post, and I can try to work with that to mock it up for you?

@diamondgirl5k the side diamonds are a little off-color due to the different pic mash-up, as they’re the rounds from the pic @SimoneDi posted, but hopefully this will give you a little bit of an idea how it might look with your central diamond.

One note about pears is that for them to avoid looking like a flying dutchman, the tips need to be tipped downward. So, there is a fine balance to achieve the right size to suit your finger size. Also, I greatly prefer that the pear tips are captured in the shank. If done like Steven Kirsch's settings, that gives your adjacent fingers protection from the point peartip prongs and a place to rest your fingers on the sides, which allows for less spinning.

 I agree w/ @rockysalamander on this! I am working on a design for a 3-stone with my spinel & a pair of pear diamond sides, and have the same plan to avoid poking the crap out of my ‘neighbor’ fingers with the pear tips’ prongs. That would drive me nuts!!! :hand:

@the_mother_thing you are so good!

Btw OP, I looked into your earlier threads and saw that you did have a three stone with pears at one point in the past. Were you happy with it, was it the style of your dreams? I am asking because you are currently saying that you would like your stone to appear round and “maximize the look” of the center. Honestly, that may be best achievable with a medium set solitaire reset. I find that all side stones, even the smallest ones, will detract from the center stone. The alternative will be to use very small side stones, unless you want a true three stone look.

Thank you all so much for your replies and for helping me. I really appreciate it. @SimoneDi yes I still have the 2ct with the pears but I was thinking of changing that into a solitaire pendant. I don’t wear it often. Also I don’t care for the actual ring setting. I picked pears that were too large for that stone.

Ah ok, makes sense! Can you possibly reuse the same pears? I just feel that small pears may serve your diamond the best.

I think you’re right about smaller pears but I’m not crazy about the ones I have. I tho k they’re too narrow/long. I like the idea of short fat pears.

I've been thinking about this and I wonder if what it needed is to really emphasize the shapes by adding bezel (or bezel in a halo). You've tried brilliant pears and step-cut baguettes. Those are not making your heart sing and you still want to see that round shape.

Here's what I have in mind. You can have the halo or not, but can you see how that bezel really makes the shapes clear? The side profile can be as shown below or it can have more vintage inspired designs, or even a floral basket.

Heres an example with round sidestones with the stone not tucked.

That is a beautiful setting by Victor Canera. I know the center stone is 2.50 - how large is your center stone? It looks more like a three carat and that will of course make a difference too.

the center stone is a 5ct K I1. The main concern I have with it is that it doesn’t look perfectly “round” to me so I am hoping putting it in six prongs will help that.

Wow - I knew it was larger than a 2.5 stone but I didn't realize it was 5 carats - sorry!

If it doesn't look round to you, then I would imagine it is the width of the baguettes it is currently set with. They must be drawing your vision sideways so you loose the shape of the circle. I would contact Victor and talk to him about resetting your ring. He really is so good at figuring out angles and such that compliment stones. I think any side stones would need to be angled downward to preserve the shape of your stone and to fit the top of your finger.
