I was wondering how you came about your beautiful EGL oval stone. My b/f picked out a 1.51 carat oval EGL and I am in need of reassurance since EGL doesn''t get much praise on PS. I am a bit of a perfectionist/OCD so I don''t want to sacrifice on the stone and am a little scared by the negative opinion of EGL on PS.

Was your diamond EGL-USA or an out of country EGL cert ?

Like I said in the subject text your ring is outstanding and one of my absolute favorites! I just found that it was an EGL when doing some topic searches.

Thanks so much!

I''m not who you''re looking for, but wanted to let you know that I saw a BEAUTIFUL EGL cushion. It was very oval in shape and E Si2 (had a carbon inclusion but was completely eye clean). I don''t remember if it was US or another country.

If your boyfriend saw the stone prior to purchasing I''m sure it''s beautiful.

Hi Mandy... so glad I saw this page!! Thanks so much for the compliments on my ring... you are so sweet.

I don't actually know which EGL lab my stone's cert is from... but I don't THINK it is USA. I found the stone through an online vendor here on Pricescope and was really worried about the cert as well, but because I live in the same city as a very respected independent appraiser on PS (Dave Atlas), we paid a refundable downpayment to have the stone shipped directly to his office and had Chris (their internet stone guy) go over it for me.

The EGL cert said it was F color, SI1 clarity, and Chris verified that all stats were correct by GIA/AGS standards as well (and that the clarity might actually be closer to VS2, in his opinion). Which meant I was getting a great quality stone for a cheaper price than I'd be paying for a GIA or AGS cert. After he verified everything and we decided to keep the stone, we paid the balance on it and had it set at a local B&M. Total cost of stone plus setting was $8000, which was exactly our budget... so it all worked out well!

Only thing to consider is if you think you might want to sell the stone or upgrade someday, then having a GIA or AGS cert is definitely going to make that easier. I knew that we weren't going to be upgrading anytime soon, and if we did, I'd probably still want to keep our engagement stone for sentimental purposes, so I didn't weigh that into our decision as much. But definitely something to think about. EGL does have a bad rep on here, and it's for a good reason... they aren't always accurate with their grading. But if you can have their stats verified, and aren't as concerned with resale value, and love the stone... I don't think there's any other reason not to go for it!

Hope that helps... let me know if you have any other questions! And congrats on your ring-search/engagement... such a fun/crazy/exciting process!!

My RB is an EGL europe cert, and it''s a great stone - lives up to the specs, and was a great value. A cert is a piece of paper - your eyes can tell you if a stone is truly beautiful.

Hey there,
I am also considering an EGL USA stone. At first it worried me, but I saw it in person and it took my breath away. If you (or your BF) have seen the stone and trust your eyes, then I don''t think you have anything to worry about!

Thank you so much for your responses! You have really eased my mind! I am going with my b/f to view the stone tomorrow and hopefully it will be an EGL diamond in the rough.

I will post and let everyone know how everything turns out tomorrow.

Ephemery: Your ring is similar to the one I picked out except mine has a halo! You have awesome taste!
