I am working with DK to set my 8.95ct light pink unheated sapphire (14.41 x 10.9x 7.46) in a split shank halo. The inspiration is as follows:

Halo size/proportion from the following (how many points do you think I would need?):
lm1.jpg

Split shank & basket combination of the following two. I want to have space between the shanks and would prefer that they not join (like the next picture).

Here are the CADS, currently without diamonds - I'm trying to get the proportions right. Do you have suggestions?

You plan to have the 2 bands not join at all, even under the finger? I don't know how comfortable that would be and I think I would prefer that they join under the finger for added structural strength and avoid the skin puffing out between 2 bands look. Other than that, I would let DK's experience dictate the mm size of the melees for it to look proportionate to the top inspiration ring.

So I have two comments. One is more personal preference than anything. And that is, the shank in your inspiration pear has more twists and turns than the cad he gave you. See in that bottom pear ring how the shank flows all the way up to the point? Your cads it just goes to where the prongs will be. I don't have a problem with that part of the cad, but if you where looking for more design in the actually shank itself, you might mention it.

The other thing is I may have him soften the taper into the split of the shank just a bit.

I think I'd be having Steven Kirsch making any LM inspired rings, seriously.

Not everyone has kind of money

An 8.95 ct unheated sapphire is a very high end gemstone. She is looking at LM rings for inspiration. If she was asking about a 2 ct blue topaz, I wouldn't have posted it, because I wouldn't go with SK or VC for that, either. I don't have confidence that anyone can do that level of work other than Steven or Victor, and I'd save until I could have them do it right if I were fortunate enough to have a sapphire like that.

I really have a problem in general with vendors who can't design rings well enough that people have to come here to get design help and their CADs fixed.

Sorry, OP, just being honest. You obviously have great taste and I just want to see you end up with a setting that is as good as your inspiration pieces.

I have a problem when someone has already decided on a vendor but someone comes here and tells them to spend thousands more on a vendor they already knew was out there and decided against.

Have you seen this pear he did, op? I feel like the melee is the size you're after.

I removed my responses, Niel, and if you didn't copy them, they wouldn't still be here.

OP, I am sorry I posted. I just wanted you to have a setting as outstanding as the stone you have. I hope DK can deliver that for you!

ChronoThank you for your feedback. I do want the non-joining bands, but am also wondering about the structural strength. The comfort should be fine for me since my e-ring and band have a little separation when worn together.

Niel, you are right, the inspiration pear has more twists and turns. I had it changed in an earlier cad from going to the "point" to the prong, but I feel like that was the wrong move.

diamondseeker, thank you for your input. I know you want the very best outcome for me :) . Even though I love my sapphire, it is far from trade-ideal color and has a visible inclusion. As such, my goal for this ring is something "fun" that won't bust my budget.

OK, I understand about the band separation. So are you looking to have more twists and turns back in the CAD design?

It looks to me that the bands on CAD end under the hand further apart than the LM. The bands on the LM are still separate, bu they look like they touch.

Correct; however, from her post, she does not want them to be touching.

Chrono, you are right - more twists and turns. But my finger size is small (4.25) and the stone is large, so maybe I'm asking for something that cannot be done.

That's a beautiful stone, in my opinion at least.

I was thinking about your wanting more twists dilemma.

Maybe have the detail in the basket rap around the outside of the shank, rather than behind it.

No problem. I just meant I was trying to delete since you did not think the comments were appropriate, but I couldn't do anything about the copies. Thankfully swissmiss understood my intent so everything is fine. :wavey:
