Yes - you'll be charged VAT at 17.5% plus duty at 2.5% (ie. 20% in total). This is pretty much unavoidable I'm afraid but still works out cheaper than buying here in the UK - and remember you won't pay any state sales tax.

More about duty and VAT charges here.

Right.

I think I have decided on the diamond: http://www.whiteflash.com/round_ideal_cut/round-ideal-cut-cut-diamond-677994.htm

I also think I''m going to go for this setting http://www.sndgems.com/gelin-abaci-tension-ring-5.htm in White gold.

14 or 18 Carat? Is 18 carat woth the extra cost?

The thing I am concerned about now is that whiteflash dont do the setting I want. Can anyone recomend a place that will do this setting with a diamond I have already purchased from whiteflash? How would it work - would I have to ship the diamond out to them or will whiteflash be happy to send the diamond directly to them?
If anyone has had experiance of this it would be great to hear your thoughts.

... but they may be able to send the stone to G&A and have it set for you. This is the usual way things are done with these settings to begin with.
Otherwise it is a matter of finding a 'authorised jeweler' to set your diamond. Is there any from the G&A list near you?

Yes, you have WF send to the G+A dealing jeweler of your choice, they'll be more than happy to do that. The jeweler then deals w/G+A and gets the stone set and then sends it to you. You can also include it being sent to an appraiser in there somewhere if you want.

I worked with micky roof jewelers (in New York) for my G+A. They were awesome and I'd work with them again, they worked with me very nicely by e-mail (I live far away and couldn't be there in person) and were extremely professional and friendly... that said there are a number of companies that do G+A rings and no matter who you work with it's going to the same place to get set anyway. So I can heartily recommend Micky Roof from personal experience but there are others that will probably do a great job as well.

Good luck, let us know how it goes! I love the bypass style you picked out.

The diamond I chose above is from whiteflash and they will not provide the setting I want.

Dimendscassa do and I have seen this diamond there:)
What do people think? They seen similar and I''m thinking it will make things easier if I get the diamond and the setting from the same source. Is this diamond equally as good?

I think you''re vastly overestimating the hassle of sending the diamond from one place to another. All you have to do is tell Whiteflash where to send it and then let the person making the ring know it''s coming... and that''s it. They get the diamond, let you know they got it and then they make the ring. As long as they''re the type of jeweler who is willing to set loose stones (most will) there should be no other steps.

I don''t know much about rounds, someone else can poke their head in and tell you how nice the dimendscaasi diamond is vs. whiteflash.

It''s hard to say from the GIA cert (older GIA) since it doesn''t provide all the info needed... It looks like a virtual stone that Isaac (Dscaasi) has to call in. I did a quick search and found a few Signature diamonds with similar specs (in house). You can always set up a session with him to look at it online and also get him to send you the detail specs... like crown and pavilion angles. Hunt around, you should be able to find some diamonds with the newer style GIA certs like the first one I listed below. This is a little more expensive, but larger. It is a G, but unless your are color sensitive, it should be very white.

http://www.dscaasi.com/diamonds/diamondDetail.asp?stockNum=123-233 - new GIA cert. HCA = 1.1
http://www.dscaasi.com/diamonds/diamondDetail.asp?stockNum=96-2569 - old style GIA cert
http://www.dscaasi.com/diamonds/diamondDetail.asp?stockNum=92-2197 - old style GIA cert

Also, it looks like his prices for the G+A settings are cheaper, so you are saving money there also. Also, never hurt to ask for further discounts, right. I bought my wife''s Ering with him and also went tension set and it was a great experience. Good luck on your search.
