I posted in the wrong place so I'm trying again.

Hey guys,

i have been thinking about this for a year, looking and trying to decide what to get. Originally i had a budget of 2500 and wanted to get what she wanted or what she thought she wanted.

Something told me that she wasn't quite sure though so we went many places and she could never settle on one style, therefor i couldn't feel comfortable picking one out myself.

Anyways we went to the International diamond center and tried on tons of rings. We finally settles on a Tacori, .75 PC-A EGL D/Sl2

the diamond cost me 1800 and the ring was .22ctw 18k, $2850 for an even 5k out the door. She is extremely happy but i want to make sure i got a good diamond for my money.

Do my eye the diamond looked amazing, however I'm a chef not a jewelry expert. The guy seemed nice and knowledgeable just want to double check, probably should have researched more before buying but i can return within 30 days.

**update-

We went back and I asked to see some GIA diamonds. We decided on a .73 e si2, it's had a slight feather only visible under loupe and was way whiter/colorless compared to the egl, I'd didn't sparkle as much but she preferred it.

However this cost and extra 200 so a total of 5200.

Is this a good value?

HI:

Do you have number of the GIA certification--so we can have a look?

cheers--Sharon

I'm no expert, but I searched around for diamonds with similar carat, color, and clarity and did not find any below $2000, which might suggest that you got a good deal. However, that says to me that there is likely a drop in the quality of the 4th C (cut) to get that price. Not surprising, given that you mentioned noticeably less sparkle. I believe that most here would say that of the 4 Cs, cut should be given a higher priority. just my 2 cents.

I don't it had to be orders as it couldn't be sized there to her size. I will get the appraisal and certificate when I pick it up.

That's a possibility, overall she preferred it so I'm ok it it unless I got ripped off in in which case id look somewhere else for a diamond.

Not that it means much but it was marked for 2400, I talked him down and ended up buying earrings as well for a Xmas gift so I think he gave me a good deal but maybe not?

The egl did sparkle more, I wouldn't say marginally but noticeable right next to each other.

It might have sparkled more but without the angles table depth crown size it is hard to say . But if you've been lurking you know how we all feel about EGL they are VERY soft in their certifications so if it starts out a si2 then it is likely much lower I feel much more secure with a GIA even though the cut might be off . Please give us the GIA number when you can so we can see the cut specifications.
