BGD baby bezels or something similar?

I have finally saved up the funds to purchase the BGD baby bezel studs that I have wanted forever. I'm just about to go through with it but wondering if I am missing something similar for similar money? I've got $600 saved for them. Definitely want white metal bezels.

If anyone knows of anything that might be a better bang for my buck I'm open to suggestion!

What size stones are you looking at?

I'd get a quote from ID Jewelry.....it seems like they often provide "best bang for the buck"... Tell them you want "Pricescope quality" diamonds.

I ordered a pair of .25ctw BGD Sig baby bezels. They were H SI2 Ex and cost $750. I had them for about a week and did not think that they sparkled anymore then my other earrings that are not such a great cut. Also, I could see the slight color. I returned them and ordered a pair of PS quality .40ctw bezels from IDJ. They were the same price but much bigger and look better in my second hole. The .25ctw were just too small for me and IMHO were not worth the upcharge for the cut. My little 20 ptrs sparkle like crazy and when I loupe them, they are very clear.

Mine are 14k. The bezels are perfect, they are connected to the post like a martini setting so they sit straight. The backs are still snug. I leave them on 24/7 and just remove to clean or wear in my first piercing.

Nonie-Thats exactly what I want mine for 24/7 wear. Yours look great!

Orb-I'll definitely let you know what they offer. =)

Can you measure these for me and tell me how many mm they are edge to edge?

They are 5.25mm. :wavey:

Thank you!

I'm not sure what to do. BGD says their .25's measure 4.1mm across, WF says theirs are 5mm or maybe 5.1, I can't recall. I'm waiting for IDJ to get me a quote Monday. WF's will not have ACA's but they are a mm bigger than BGD's...thats nuts!

Bezel thickness variation as well...

That was really helpful Yssie! Thank you!

I've got lots of baby bezels, including a pair from WF and I also had a pair from BGD. Both were 0.30 ctw. BGD's were significantly smaller than WF's. The WF bezels are also thicker, which makes the diamond look larger. BGD bezels are wafer-thin, so thin you can barely see them. I have other items from BGD and I love them, but the BGD baby bezels were so flimsy I didn't see how they could possibly be considered a quality product. They were light as air and so small you really could barely see them. When I put both BGD earrings on my scale, they registered zero, whereas the WF pair registered 1g.

I took photos of the WF pair next to the BGD pair and sent them to Lesley, and she refunded my money. She said she could see that the size difference between the BGD and WF settings, but that the diamonds were the correct weight. I believed her; I just think the cut is different, leading to melee that is perhaps smaller in diameter than other melee. This was the BGD Signature melee, by the way, not the pre-set melee.

Although I am happy with my WF baby bezels, to be honest I have two other pairs of baby bezels from local jewellers which were half the cost, not ideal-cut melee, but which seem just as sparkly. If I were you, with your $600 budget (my WF and BGD bezels were about $900 a couple of years ago) I'd go to a local jeweller and see what they have in stock. I bet you'll be able to get a really nice pair with your budget.

Here are my WF bezels:

I've just seen that Yssie has kindly posted my comparison, that I'd forgotten I'd done, and I didn't see that when I read the thread. So blind and stupid today! Cold plus jetlag. :blackeye:

Thank you both for the IDJ recommendation! I decided to go with them. For within $25 dollars of the BGD .25ctw they are doing .50 ctw!

They said they'd have to find the style like you have NM, that it's not their normal bezel style so I am going with what they have available which is the flat backed version. Was yours a special order? I really like your style but he said your style is less comfortable than the flat backs.

Mine weren't special order I just asked for thin bezels. The martini style was a little uncomfortable to sleep in the first week or so.

Nonie I love yours and stepcutgirl that's good to know, will you
PLEASE
POST
PICS
when you get them?
How long is the wait time on those,
and what color grade will they be?

Woohoo! That's awesome! You asked for Pricescope quality diamonds right?

OOO-I got a quote from them on Monday and got them in my hot little hand today! I will take some pics tomorrow when there is light out.

Orb-I did ask for PS quality, and the paper that came with them says they are F/G but I'm unsure. I can see a hint of color and when I hold them up next to my GIA H's the H's are whiter for sure. I don't have a loupe or anything to look for inclusions but to my eye they are very sparkly and I can't see any inclusions.

I decided to keep them. I really do like them. For $600 I was able to get double the tcw of the other vendors and they threw in heavy friction backs. I would do business with them again.

Can you post a photo of the side and back, please. Does the post come out of the middle or more toward the top? I think you got a great price. I don't know how they come up with prices. Mine are ps quality, .40ctw and I paid $750! :errrr:

The post comes out of the middle. I told them my budget and what it could get me at BGD and WF and asked what they could offer.

FWIW-your stones look better than mine. When I mag up the pics I've got black carbon spots and some warmth to my stones. I also see arrows in yours that I don't see in mine.

I did see a lot of color in the tiny BDG bezels that I returned. But that was only if I examined them closely. On the ear, lower colors are fine. I think you got a great buy :appl:

The only thing that I would want you to be sure of is the height off your ear. Are you wearing them in a second hole; do they look too high when worn with another pair of earrings? Mine sit flat on the ear, like a disk. Make sure you have no doubts; if you do have IDJ remake them in the martini setting.

Yeah, when I first got them the PS-er in me was like omg, inclusions, color, ack! But I wore them all weekend and realized I love them and it's not like I'll be taking them off to inspect them next to my certified stones regularly. For what I paid, I got an amazing deal! And even knowing those black inclusions are there try as I might I cannot see them without the camera magnification.

And IDJ did contact me back to talk to me about the color issue I contacted them abut late Friday but I was sick and couldn't talk and then they tried again today, so I fell like they would have worked with me had I been unhappy but before I even saw their emails I had decided to keep them. I really like them. I think I'd have been happy with .25 ctw's too. Turns out I must not have the dumbo ears I thought because I keep asking everyone if the .50 ctw's are too big! LOL

I'm not sure how high off my ear they are. I don't have a ruler handy. The back sits flat like a disk but obviously the design being as it is the actual diamond is up a bit. In some sleep positions they are a bit uncomfortable but it's the back post not the front that's the issue.

I REALLY love your martini frame.

You are right about the long post. If I find it to be uncomfortable, I loosen the back a bit and go back to sleep.

Nonie-Will you post a pic of the back of yours where the martini part connects to the post?

I don't have a photo of the back. If you look at the one I posted, there are 3 triangles and the points flow into the post.
