Does a 11mm width of the bezel and a 6.75mm opening under the stone sound right or should it be slightly smaller? I am helping a friend look at a design cad and curious about others thoughts.

My ring from cvb_id has a large opening and I love that. I prefer it for cleaning and enjoy viewing the bottom of the stone.

Here is my opening for fun!

What do you think? Cad attached I will provide him feedback.

I’m sorry - I really have no idea what is better from an experienced or expert point of view.

But ... I would like to say that I really like the wide opening at the bottom of your ring ... so I had to go back to the original question to make sure you were asking if it should be bigger... but you’re asking if it should be smaller, lol.

Which leads me to suggest not to make it smaller ...=)2 ... and bump your question ...

I seem to recall a designer (may have been CvB but not certain) suggesting that the donut size should be or is typically the same size as the diamond’s table. So that could be why it’s that size vs smaller. However, I would think you could opt for it to be smaller, though I’d imagine - given the stone size - it may be more likely to teeter on the finger if it’s too small. Hope that helps/makes sense.

@HS4S_2 Here’s a quick/rough visual of what was explained to me about the correlation of table/donut size. And the more I think about it, the more I am pretty sure it was Caysie who shared that ‘rule’ to me, as I seem to recall the question came up when she was making the Abby setting for this OEC. Of course, there may be different considerations for different stone shapes, so it’s worth asking the designer what their thoughts are on it.

For what it’s worth, I rather like the gallery/donut size in the CAD you posted; it doesn’t look out of proportion to my eye, considering the stone size. The only caveat is if your friend wants a traditional-shaped band to sit flush, in which case, the gallery may need to tuck inward more to a smaller donut. Just keep that ‘teetering’ potential in mind in the donut is made smaller, given the stone size. Both my CvB and my Sholdt teeter a little bit in the north/south directions when my fingers shrink (in cold weather), but that’s moreso due to the overall rings’ size vs. the donut. It doesn’t bother me personally, but some people may be annoyed by that. Mine just happen to be sized a quarter-size bigger so I can comfortably stack if I want to as well as when summer hits and my fingers swell, they don’t look like blingy sausages.
