bezel setting for an engagement ring

This is a side view of the ring I was given for my birthday. While it has prongs, it sits low because of the intricate build up on the sides of the band leading to the stone. Is the same idea possible for a diamond ring, I''m wondering?

Change in plans...

Now I think I like a swirl band that curls up around the diamond like a wave, and has a matching band that snuggles into the wave....

I saw a pretty setting that I''m getting to try on on Monday, so I can see if it''s too wide for me, but from the picture, it looks really delicate! :0)
