Hi all! I am resetting my Kota into white metal and I'm soooooo excited! My stone goes crazy when it's next to a white metal!! I originally wanted a wide chunky setting, but the more I look at my hand, the more I like the simple and classic solitaire. The problem is that we are split between a bezel for total protection and a 6 prong (think Vatche 113 ish) for maximum sparkle. I wear my ring 24/7!! I am so torn and would love any and all opinions! Thanks in advance!

Here's the best simulation of a bezel I can come up with and the current YG prong setting:

What ya think????

If there isn’t a girdle concern (e.g. ex-thin, chips, etc), I vote prong setting assuming your setter feels the diamond is safe in such. If there are girdle concerns, then bezel. But I voted prongs because more light in just seems better. :wavey:

@the_mother_thing no girdle concerns, just a typical OEC very thin to thick girdle :) I figure/hope that if it's lasted almost a hundred years without any issues, it should be ok to prong set ;)2

I think either will be gorgeous! But I like the look of a bezel, and sometimes think it makes the stone shine even more than a solitaire. But honestly you cannot go wrong, that stone is amazing.

I love a good bezel or even a prong set (fake) bezel!

While I'm partial to the look of a traditional solitaire, you might like Vatche's #183, which is a trellis gallery bezel.

I would duplicate the current YG setting in WG/platinum. It’s seriously gorgeous.

@Winks_Elf Wow- you are good!! That's VERY close to the bezel I am thinking of :kiss2:

I'd say that the swirls of chain show what this diamond will look like with a polished white metal backing

What about eight prongs? It's big enough that eight prongs could totally be pulled off, but it will give you just that extra tiny bit of reassurance... (Because although I'm a prongs fan myself, I also know if I were worried about a girdle I might be a bit nervous if I felt the girdle was overly exposed...).

CvB comes to mind... Something like this or this or this... Hmmm so many options... :lickout:

Oh that Vatche 183 is lovely. Saved that one for future reference. With a bezel, besides added protection and ease of wear you have that boost in size appearance. Not that your gorgeous stone needs any help! Yummy

Given the size of your stone, I vote prongs! I think a bezel setting with this diamond would be too large for your ringer. I love seeing all of the stone as well!

@lovedogs thank you for pointing out that the shine can still be amazing in a bezel :)

@tyty333 yes, the 113 is a pretty incredible setting!

@foxinsox I love my temp setting, but I would like the stone to sit higher and have a small donut so I can wear some bands with it. So I just need to decide which way to go ;) Thanks!

@av yes, the photo shows that it still has some pretty spectacular sparkle even with the chain wrapped completely around it!

@Winks_Elf I didn't realize vatche did custom modifications- thanks!!

@Lykame thank you! those are all gorgeous suggestions! I am really drawn to clean and classic lines for my jewelry, more modern and Art Deco than Edwardian or Georgian. That's why I'm having a hard time finding an 8 prong, because they are all more ornate than I am wanting. My current 8 prong is a wonderful mix of classic and antique so it is great for my tastes! Thank you for giving me suggestions- I really need them!

@Sandeek I know you love a good bezel set :). I may wind up being brave enough to try it- we'll see!!

@MissGotRocks Thank you for your input- I appreciate it!

I never dreamed that finding a setting would be soooooo HARD! HA :wall:

I am not a fan of an 8 prong setting. IMHO too many prongs. I think your stone is beautiful and a bezel may detract from it-love the simple setting.

Wow, well I vote for prongs all day over a bezel but man, that is one beautiful diamond!

Gorgeous stone. What about a faux bezel? I'm a bezel fan through & through but I found a few years ago that removing a bezel & reapplying a bezel was expensive. A faux bezel may give you the flexibility to have an enclosed type of stone but prong set. If you needed to remove it, you could. I did just that with my 3 stone pendant (made by David Klass). The bezels are very delicate. Of course the little extra mm's around the stones aren't too shabby. :mrgreen2: My centre stone is missing as I had that set locally.

Hi all, UPDATE!!!!! Well, after months of agonizing over a permanent setting, and against all the the odds, I have decided:geek2:!! I just sent my email to DK to start CADs and I am over the moon excited! DH really wanted a bezel all along, but he would be great with whatever I chose. For me to have a "mind safe" setting, I dug down deep inside and finally figured out I would have to go bezel too! Prongs are awesome, but stress is not :lol-2:. So bezel it is! The ring I found as inspiration is a gorgeous mix of antique and bold. I will come back with the finished product in a few weeks, depending on production time! Thanks for all your thoughts- prongs were the overwhelming winner- and I really took them all to heart, but in the end had to do what was best for our situation. Wish me patience while I wait! Thanks again for all your thoughts and help!!=)2

I'm of the strong belief that being 'told' what others' favourite option is can really help cement decisions, even if you choose the opposite. So it doesn't matter what everyone here thought, it matters that you're doing what is right for you, and if the opinions here allowed you to get to that point then that's all that matters. :rolleyes2:

I hope you share the CADs with us - many here have a very good eye for sensible modifications. :geek2:

Congratulations!

Good for you! Glad you made a decision that’s best for you! We would love to see the CADs from DK!

Best,
C4C
