Hi All,

I''m currently searching for earrings to match my ER. Its an RB solitaire platinum setting. I am wondering what is the best setting for the earrings. I''m not sure yet on the size I''ll get. My ER is 0.86, so Im not sure of the best size to compliment the ring. But I''m not clear is the martini setting just a personal preference over the 4 prong. Or does it make sense to do a bezel type setting? Are there other type of settings for studs? Will one make it look bigger than the other or make it more safe? or will it depend on the size of the diamond?

Thanks.

Hello,

It''s not necessary to match your e-ring. I think when you try some on you''ll know the right size. I would suggest a platinum setting for studs regardless if it is a 3 prong martini or traditional 4 prong. The setting style is a personal preference as you mention. Another nice look is the pave setting.

TripleG, you might want to try a search here on the forums for some of your terms ("martini" "bezel earring" or whatever strikes you). I find the search feature very helpful and you will likely find lots of pics of various earrings. I know that there have been many topics considering the pros and cons of various settings, earring backs, etc. that would probably be useful to you. I get all sorts of good ideas this way.

What a fun project-good luck!

Thanks all for the recommendations!

I think the setting is a personal preference as I got a simple four prong platinum setting. What I like about it is the prongs make the round diamonds almost look square cut and larger. Mine are about 80 points for the pair and are a good everyday look for me, from the gym to the office and out. I wouldn''t mind a larger upgrade some day but I could keep these forever and be happy.

My only suggestion is that it seems a good investment and for your peace of mind to consider screw on settings. I like to wear my earrings 24/7 and haven''t lost one yet due to the secure back. Just make sure it isn''t too thick for your holes as I found some 22k gold earrings I ordered to be. If you get them in the states you should be fine.

My recommendation would be to get martini white gold settings. I like the martinis because the diamonds look like they''re floating on your ear. although I''m more of a minimalist when it comes to prongs. As for the white gold settings, for earrings, I personally can''t justify paying the premium for platinum, especially since you can''t see most of it. I had both a pair of screw backs and standard friction backs, and I prefer the friction backs. While the screw backs did offer more security, the friction backs are must less of a pain to get in and out (and I like to take mine out frequently and clean them...I''m kind of OCD about having my diamonds be clean).

Thanks that helps alot! I wonder with the white gold do you ever have to replate them like with rings? I had some white gold studs before and havent noticed that but thats why i got the platinum so I wouldnt have to replate. Or is that just not really a concern with the studs?

I am definitely considering the screwbacks so far. With the quality I want to buy if Im spending 3k on studs I absolutely do not want to ever lose one!

Thanks for all your help!

Here''s a thread on studs, with pics.

And if you do some searches on setting preferences, you''ll get tons of threads!
