Will try Thursday if there's sun to find a place to set it and hold the camera w/both hands.

Oh jeez that just made them really small.

Your original picture should be around 3MB or so, so when you crop, you should end up with a file around 100KB. I noticed that your file size is barely 5 KB, which is too small, hence the tiny picture.

Maybe these will work. The other pictures I had resized and saved as the smaller ones, not as different names so the bigger/original MB ones are gone. These are from 2 pictures I hadn't messed w/.

Do you have a pc with windows? If so, there is an accesory called "paintbrush" or "paint". Open your photos in paint, and you can cut the photo out using the icon that looks like a dotted square. Then go to the image menu option and choose stretch/skew, and put a 1 in both top squares. That shrinks down the existing image with the stone cut out of it. Then do a paste and save the resulting new cropped image. That's how I crop. It retains all the original resolution of the main photo. When you just shrink, you lose resolution and color.

I've got paint.net-same I assume? I can cut the stone out but the images menu lets me rotate or flip, and then resize or canvas size..I tried a couple different things. No skew/stretch..I played w/the pixels width/height but doesn't look like I gained anything.

Paint is mspaint.exe. Not sure what that other app is.

Hm..no wonder paint seemed weird. I used it once years ago and did all kinds of things w/it, and this program, whatever it is, I can't figure out. I can't figure out how I managed to delete it from the computer. I went to Run and tried to find it and it's not there. Can I download it from the internet?

Do you have your original Windows CD? You can download it from there, or I think Microsoft's website if you have your MS windows reg number. Here's some instructions if you can't find it on your computer.

Thanks TL. I downloaded it. When I started it, I thought Ohh yeah, I remember this one. The last time I used it was to make a collage of London's pics and put her name in it as my desktop-when she wasn't even a year old. She's 7 now. Who knows when/how it got deleted! I'll play w/it later tonight. Gotta run to Gramma w/the Kitties house..she's refusing to eat and will only do it if we visit.

Are you cropping with mspaint.exe now? Your first two look much clearer. It's a pretty purple for a rainy day, but I can't wait to see those sunshine shots.

Yep, w/paint and wow so much easier. Sheesh. I should've asked about this like..2 years ago when I got my first stone for crying in a bucket. Ah well, I guess that means I can take the stones that I still have here outside to do new glamour shots and get them cropped properly. I wish I still had my other stones here.

The sunshine pics..what is the best way to get good pics? The only way I've been able to get decent ones is when it's really sunny, standing under the tree, otherwise the stones just look like a reflecty blob.

Try taking photos of the gem in your car on a sunny day. I swear, it's the best place!! Just make sure it's sitting in the box lid on a surface where it can't move. You don't want the stone and your hand to wobble too much.

Or you know, you could just send them to me. The stones I mean. Then I could take pics with my snazzy camera!

I guess you could send the pics too if you wanted and I can see what I can do with them?

Much clearer pictures but I'm still not seeing any pink. Is it the stone or the camera?

Chrono, it's operator error I'm sure! We've got cloudy skies in the forecast for who knows how long so it's going on a vaca to visit Aunt Freke in NM tomorrow. I oughta send all the kids to her while they're waiting for their projects.

Auntie Freke should be able to help but I don’t know if she’s willing to send them home after the babysitting duties are long done.

Ha, my kids are ornery. They don't listen, don't cooperate for the camera, very pretty and sparkly but unruly and rebellious.

Hopefully today I can get some good daylight shots--unfortunately it's kind of cloudy, but it's early yet!

The photos are now in focus, but I would crop closer to the stone (don't shrink). That is because PS tends to really wash out the color once you upload. The more up close you can get to the stone, the better. Also, I think incandescent light photos also lend their own trials and tribulations to getting accurate color, with a point and shoot, that is.

Well these are cropped to about 1/20th of what the original frame contained. I shall try again later with both cameras.
