Backwards: Help me find an e-ring to match my wedding band?

Hello lovely PS'ers! I've been lurking for quite some time but it's finally time to come out of the shadows and seek your assistance!

When my husband and I got married, we couldn't afford a diamond engagement ring. We got a lovely silver e-ring, and paired it with a platinum and diamond wedding band. It's now time to start saving for a diamond e-ring, but I am having trouble finding a style that I like to go with it! The wedding band is kind of convex, so nothing sits flush against it.



Any ideas as to what would go well with this wedding band? I'm very open to ideas, but I have often had a preference for emerald cuts, pears, marquise, and rounds. My budget is around $2000-4000. I'm not picky about diamond size, but I want SPARKLE! My ring size is 4.5. I'm definitely open to pre-owned rings. I think the e-ring setting should be platinum to match the wedding band.

All ideas welcome! If I can provide any additional information, please let me know.

This is usually the kind of band I see paired with a three stone ring with an MRB flanked by tapered baguettes.

So I think a baguette three stone will be best with that. I saw ifnit doesn't sit flush so be it! As for what shape, I'm partial to marquise. But sense you're open to all sorts, I say get the best stone we can find

An excellent suggestion. I guess my concern is that my wedding band would not sit flush to the e-ring... maybe I'll just get over that.

Oh I don't mind in the slightest. And thank you. Sadly it's not mine anymore I gave it to my mother for her birthday a year or so back.

I bought the ring second hand so I didn't find the setting separate.

James allan sells a setting just like it though. When I get home I'll see what marquise James Allen has to offer

I dont think it would look good with a marquise. The wedding band would be pushed all the way out to the end of the marquise.
Usually when I see these kind of wedding bands with marquise the center baguette is cut out and there is just some metal
there that goes under or around the bottom of the marquise so the baguettes still sit up close to the baguettes by the side of the
marquise. Your current wedding band is not designed that way. I think it would go better with a round or pear (rounded end).
Edit ...I dont mind some split but that split would be too much (for me).

You can google and see some marquise/baguette engagement and wedding bands and see how they are usually designed.

If it were me*, I would wear it as a right hand ring and start over with a new left hand set. Or maybe find a nice solitaire that has
more squared off metal to match your wedding band. Like this one...

I don't think you'll be able to avoid a gap unless you go the custom route but I think a gap highlights each ring individually more.
I think your band would go well with an Emerald or Asscher cut solitaire in a modern thicker setting...or a three stone with baguette sides. Do you like bezel set solitaires?

I am really intrigued by the idea of an E/W emerald. I found some neat inspiration photos:

A wish list:

EC diamond, ~0.5ct, set in 900 plat 100 irid setting. Squared edges.

I would probably solder the two rings together, so I would want their relative heights to be comparable / look good together.

I like emerald, asscher, round....I also like e-w pear, marquise with your band. Honestly, I think the setting would dictate if it matches your band, not center stone shape. I think settings similar to Malcolm Betts' would look great with your band:

Have you gone to a jeweler and tried on several different styles of rings to see what you like with it? Your band is very pretty. Also when I am looking for ideas I go through this giant thread - it's got lots of styles and combinations of rings.

I've tried on lots of rings at jewellery stores, but by and large they're not very unique. A lot of lovely traditional options, but I need something a little different

I'm really loving your open mindedness in regards to your ring. And your style! I think the last two shapes you posted are great and either would be cool. Yes, they're bigger than your budget allows, but you seem to understand that lol.
A step cut trillion or a kite set shape would be cool.

Would a step cut trillion be hard to find? Any ideas where to look?

My budget is flexible. If I need more money, I just need more time!

I think any E/W stone would look great with your wedding band! Good idea!

A step cut triangle would be hard to find on your own. You would probably need to work with a vendor to help find one.
How big are you looking for? Probably best to know in mm size instead of carat weight.

DiamondsbyLauren.com comes to mind but I think you are wanting to stay in the UK so you'll have to get some recommendations
from UK folks. I'm interested to see what you come up with!

You would need to email Diamondsbylauren. They wont have those stones listed on their website.

To MY eye, I prefer the E/W emerald cut - I think it complements your band and enhances it, but wouldn't overshadow it. I also think the style is more enduring. But - that said - only YOU need to be happy with it, my dear!

I think I'm leaning towards an E/W emerald cut... but would you picture it with a thin band, or a thicker band?
