August vintage cushion vs. victor canera antique

If you're choosing between two excellent cut stones, I always always suggest going for the bigger! Do you have any other information on them? Like links to the stones?

H color is great in a cushion with AGS 0 performance, so I'd take the larger stone.

Any thoughts on the kozibe effect? And the different shapes of the cutlets.

culet, not cutlet. ;))

I have an AVC, and it is a beautiful stone. And based on the ASET and IS, the VC stone would be just as nice as an AVC. I wouldn't worry about the culet - it is MUCH more obvious in pics than it is in real life. And if you are looking for a true antique vibe then go with the larger culet.

Honestly - choose whichever vendor has the setting you want!

OK. So, now that you've linked to the stone specs, I can tell that they are really similar in size. One is square and slightly larger (.2mm on one side), and is an H.

So, considering the size difference, IMO, is negligible, in terms of spread.

SO... you have G color. So you might as well go for the higher color, if all things are the same.

And you have a square versus a rectangle. I actually prefer rectangles. But there's no set rule. What does you lady prefer?

As for kobize effect. I think it's more present in the H.

In looking at the videos, that particular G is REALLY lovely. I don't always like AVC's but that one is REALLY nice. But the H is bright and lively and more antique-y to my eye. So it's a matter of preference.

As for culets. I like the rectangular culet. But I do like a larger culet too on antique cut stones. So that's a wash.

Overall, since the size difference, IMO, isn't much, I'd go with the GOG stone. BECAUSE I like the shape and the color better and it is just pleasing to my eye. So... all personal preference.

I don't think there is a wrong answer. You've got two gorgeous stones.

If you want a setting by Victor, then, I'd go with the H. Because GOG won't send AVR's to Victor for setting.

Otherwise... go with whichever suits your preferences, or your lady's preference more.

I'd go for the bigger one, as you know better value for money. Optically they are both nice shapes and will have top light performance. Victor is trying to get closer to what a real antique stone will look like in his cutting, so really it comes down to which one your eyes prefer more. I love genuine Old Cut stones and own a couple, so my eyes prefer Victor's stone both in terms of the shape and the facet placement, but it IS a very personal thing. You have two stunning stones, you can't go wrong with either one.

I personally prefer the VC stone for its larger culet and squarish proportions. But that's just me.

Does anyone notice the shattering effect in the g 1.05 on one of the table facets?(see video 39 seconds in left side) what is that? it looks like a wave or am I crazy. I am leaning towards getting an avc b/c of upgrade policy and they have the tacori 2620. I enjoy the small rectangular cutlet all thought I would rather have a larger more square shape. I love all the honest answers keep it up. As for what the lady likes... she doesn't even know so how could I haha. She just wants something her friends won't have and she can be proud of, as do I

Victor also has an upgrade policy, provided that the stone you return is not damaged in any way, he will, to my knowledge take it back and allow you to purchase a larger stone. You should be able to take any stone to a number of jewellers and get a Tacori setting made for it. There are VERY few people that own Canera cushions or AVCs so she will not have something like any of her friends.

WEll what's the price difference because despite the carat weight the dimensions are very similar, less than 5% extra spread for the big one.

The victor canera is approx. 500$ cheaper. Both are in budget just want best optical symmetry and terrific light proformance.

Not a huge price difference either.
If you have time, you could just buy both and return the one that doesn't grab your heart.

OK so I don't think you'll notice a size difference and I think the AVC is square, so that is more or less indifferent.

I like the smaller culet and don't really like kozibe with large culets, so the G for me.

Ditto, did you look at the ags report slightly worried about feather close to girdle. Will ask Tmr if it reaches the surface. Would appricate comments on the wave/shattering effect I've noticed in video (1.05g vs2 avc) on table facet.

I wish I had the means to get both and compare. The lady would notice savings down 9k and then the cat would be out of the bag (as if its not already) who is she kidding (only herself) she knows... there's just something in her mind that wants it to be a surprise so I will oblige. I have the rest of my life to figure her out 8+ years and she's still an enigma, love that girl. She deserves the best.

If all things equal, I'll pick a higher color. =)

Call and talk to Jon about the 'shattering effect' you are seeing. I think that's your best bet with that.

Whew! Those stones are well matched enough to make earrings! I think an AVC would be absolutely beautiful in the 2620!

Looked up the other stone. Stick with the 1.05 because it has a larger diameter than the other.
