I was just thinking about this!!
A Royal Asscher, to boot!! Great price tag for such a fantastic find!!

What is the difference between a Royal Asscher and a regular asscher? Thanks!

A royal asscher is a branded cut with 5 pavillion steps. Most generic asschers will have 3 or 4 pavillion steps, although some do have 5.

ohhhhhh got it!! thank you! They sure are beautiful <3

Royal Asschers have a total of 74 facets, whereas Asschers and square emerald cuts boast a total of 58 facets.
Royal Asschers also have a high crown, and most have small tables.

Cool, thank you for explaining that! :)

@monipod Hmmm, it appears you've gotten some very helpful advice and opinions.

Its challenging if you are yearning for an asscher and you've certain constraints. I completely understand. I feel that asschers need to be of a certain size (millimeters) to be able to fully enjoy and appreciate. Sure diamonds are beautiful in all sizes. It's just that asschers, the nature of the make and cu,t really do "show up" better for you to admire and gaze at, at a larger carat weight and size.

Color is very very very personal. Some like, embrace and even seek out diamonds with more tint (warmer). While others stay well within the colorless category. Personally, i feel it all depends on the make and cut of the diamond.
For step cuts, i prefer colorless or top of the near colorless range, if one must stretch the budget.

But I have found that to settle too drastically, rarely behooves you. Unless of course, the vendor that you are purchasing from has a generous trade up policy. And that you are fairly certain that they will not just up and do away with it.

if i were in your position and the vendor does NOT have a solid trade up policy then i would wait.

Hello fellow Aussie! I love asschers too and hope to own one, one day.
I know that Diamonds by Lauren are really good at picking asschers - and at reasonable prices depending on what you would compromise.

Hello! I'm over in Perth :D I think Asschers are only starting to become a popular choice in Australia now, so I have actually only seen one in the flesh. I loooooove Diamonds by Lauren... They have had some nice step-cuts but I'm hoping they'll have my ultimate fancy yellow one day :D

I'm from Melbourne. We're actually really behind in a lot of things here lol old cuts especially too. Yes DBL had a really cheap just over 1ct not too long ago. I think an asscher would be next on my list after this old mine cut

@maryjane04 Oh lovely! Hope you're going OK there? Yeah, Pricescope has been an eye-opener! I love all these 3+ carat babies some PS'ers have. I think a 1 carat is considered huge here still right? :lol-2: I'm definitely looking for a nice sized OMC or OEC though I could easily be tempted by a lab OEC from Rhino. Just love the history behind a wonky old cut too. I need to win Lotto!

Oh it sucks down here. We are in lock down for another 2 weeks. It's been so depressing being at home and not able to wear my rings etc. Also the additional weight gain has meant that my rings don't fit either :(

I think 1 carat is a good size and most aim to be roughly around there. But the settings aren't as nice as PS and definitely not the quality here. I am currently paying off a nice OMC (thank god for layby!). Although I have not seen any old cuts in person so I hope it turns out okay. It is wonky which I like the idea of but I wonder how it goes in real life. I need to win lotto too! You and me both hahaha.

Oh and a 3ct on my fingers will look like a 1ct on a size 4 finger. :( Big finger problems sigh.

Yeah, such a shame but crossing fingers you guys will get the number right down soon. I miss visiting Melb so much! Roll on summer and lighter eating as I don't want to spend money on resizing! I hope your OMC is lovely. They have so much character. Do post when you get it please!

Aww thanks Moni. It looks a lot better than what it was - 2 months ago was the last time we had this many cases. So hopefully we will go back to stage 3 in two weeks when this ends. I miss being able to travel more than 5km from my house. And yes I will definitely try and eat better too so I won't spend money on resizing because this OMC is going to cost me a lot on taxes to get it into the country lol. I think we have another month or two left to pay it off. My partner/husband is getting it for our 10 year anniversary so I will definitely show everyone when I get it. And hope you show off your asscher cut too and whenever you are in Melbourne please bring it down and show me! I want to see an asscher in person. :)
