Hello, I'm a newbie. My current stone has sustained a chip and my insurance company has settled the claim which leaves me searching for a new stone and setting. I've always had a round. I would not have looked to upgrade had this incident not happened, but now I am contemplating a different shaped stone. I have always liked the asscher and most recently even the antique cushion has claimed my attention. I've done enough reading on here to know to ask for an aset. My jeweler has shown me the attached asscher. Asking for the aset is as far as my knowledge goes. May I get some feed back on this stone? What should I be looking for in the aset? THANKS!

Let me just say this: I have an asscher and it’s my dream stone. I love it and I’m obsessed with it. It’s 1.52 carats,G Vs1.

I found a pear today, .85 carats F Si1 and it is ONLY 15% smaller than my asscher and is nearly 7,500 cheaper!!

Make sure you can deal with the size issue with asschers.

I know it’s a bit humbling to find this 2ct asscher measures a bit smaller that my 1.5 ct round ‍♀️

Year in mind that a round stone fits inside the shape of an asscher, so even if the measurements are the same the asscher will show a considerable amount more diamond surface.

The aset is certainly not bad. How is the price?

$15,300 and it seems to face up slightly larger then some of the antique cushions I’ve looked at in the same price range.

The report says 7.29x7.28x4.73 - 2.08 carats - H - VS2, excellent polish and symmetry.

I doubt I can keep it on hold past Monday, just afraid to pull the trigger when I haven’t been able to see an Antique cushion other than in videos.

5285635.jpg As for the ASET, red is direct light. Direct light is the most common light in viewing. Green light is horizontal light. Blue light is obstruction or contrast. You want a mix of all three of these. Try to avoid grey or black. These are leakage and are especially common around the center of the asscher. Here is the ASET of a leaky asscher for an example.
5498049aset.jpg Theexample of the bright asscher is at the top of the post and the leaky asscher at the bottom of the post.

With fancy shapes I think it's best to order the stone and see how it behaves in person and send it back if you don't like it.

I have a feeling that the images are slightly off-centre - it seems strange that one side would be reflecting and the other side have obstruction in a head-on image, as they are usually pretty symmetrical.

I don't think it's a bad ASET, though, there is a good mix of reflection and contrast - you just need to check to see if it is 'all-on, all-off' or whether the contrast and reflections 'step across' the stone as you tilt it. The latter is, to my mind, more visually interesting and seems to also show that a stone won't be 'all-off' head on, which would look dark.

Going from these stats, I did a quick JA search - I couldn't find anything to match the spread of the one above (!!) in an H or higher, but JA really do seem to be getting some nicely cut asschers at this moment in time - I used to struggle to find ones that jumped out at me, but there are quite a few that look promising to my eyes these days! :))

Perhaps lacking a little brightness/contrast under the table when head-on, but interesting faceting and works from all angles!

Look at the crown height on that!! :o It looks very 'Yoram' to me - perhaps @Jimmianne could comment on whether it looks similar to her Yoram vintage asscher??

A very washed-out video - I'm not sure if it's just the setup at JA changing or it is just 'meh'?

Windows a smidge at around 50degrees rotation? but otherwise looks good to me. Potentially has good 'hall of mirrors', from what I can see!

Also windows a smidge at tilt angles but only really a small amount. Maybe lacking contrast/brightness under the table? but I still like it.

Looks good to me from all angles! just the small back crystal in the table that would need assessing.

Maybe lacking brightness / suffering leakage head-on?

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/asscher-cut/1.71-carat-d-color-vs2-clarity-sku-4584166
Windows a touch and a small crystal in the table, and potentially lacking brightness under the table head-on? But quite visually interesting and a D colour.

The video for this is jumping around and being a PITA for me, grrr - looks potentially interesting!

If you drop to an I to try to increase size, I think there's only this one??
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/asscher-cut/2.30-carat-i-color-vs2-clarity-sku-3487935
Seems to have a bit too much obstruction head-on for my taste and windows a smidge, but not terrible.
