It's been a while but IIRC, the gem brief will not specify what it was treated with or the level of treatment. If it says oil, it doesn't specify what oil (dyed or mixed with resin, or type of oil) or something like that.
I probably wouldn’t bother sending it to AGL if it’s only the gem brief for the reasons Chrono described. If you didn’t pay what you consider a substantial amount for the stone, I would just keep it, enjoy it, and definitely no harsh soaps, chemicals or ultrasonic cleaners ( tell your jeweler that as well ). It looks obviously natural and it’s a reputable dealer.

ETA: maybe take it to a gemologist to make sure there won’t be an issue setting it.

So what do I do now? I dropped it on the freaking cement and I think I may have cracked it inside. I’ll post pics later.... chaotic right now, leaving for cruise soon etc.

Do I send it somewhere for verification? And if it is cracked internally, how do I know if it is unstable for mounting?

I’m sorry this happened to you, ::)

I would find a decent gemologist, or even a good jeweler could evaluate it for setting purposes. My jeweler loupes all my gems before setting them to make sure there’s no issues upon setting. The hard part is finding the right jeweler.

So sorry about this happening! I know you have worked with Wink at HPD before and Melissa there told me they also work with CS, so maybe Wink could look it over and evaluate it for you? It’s a beautiful stone and I hope it isn’t damaged too badly.

You know what, I’m going to NY in December so I’ll see if I can meet up with Inken and let her evaluate it. She is the one who will set it.

I’m nursing my knee right now then have to pack, so if I get a minute free today, I’ll snap some pics.

Sorry this happened. It’s a gut punch isn’t it? Your plan to have Inken look at it sounds solid, unless it’s an easy ‘upgrade’ Avenue.

These are both your pictures that really do look to be in the same orientation, one old and one new.
It’s really hard to tell for sure if the one in the dead middle really did extend, or it’s just a trick of the lighting/angle which I wouldn’t be suprised.
Someone earlier ( I can’t for the life of me remember who) was talking about de-saturating photos to see inclusions better. I have no knowledge of how to do so, maybe they’ll pop in and have a play?
Best of luck!

Thanks! @Rfisher it’s so chaotic right now. I appreciate you putting the two together to see.

No sweetie, you probably didn't crack the emerald by dropping it even on cement. But let me tell you why...I used to worry about that whenever I dropped a ring...I was like oh no! was that inclusion there before? Did I chip it? dent it etc ect.

Then one day, I tried to smash a garnet with a hammer ( long story). I couldn't dent that thing to save my life.

So, no. It takes a lot to mess up a stone ( even with cleavage issues, you have to hit it just exactly right, which is an art in and of itself when done intentionally)

A chip would be more likely than in internal crack, and even then, it would have to be quite a blow.
