I am finally get closer and closer and thanks everyone for all the input. I have my own opinion, but of the following three ASET images, which one do you think looks the best? Are those leakages on the first and third one?

Also, I contacted VC to obtain a quote on a double halo using an H+A cushion cut. He mentioned, and I hope I say this correctly, that because of the thickness of the girdles on an H+A, the center stone will not sit flush with the halo. As such, the center stone will have a step looking effect. He suggested I look for a different diamond...thoughts on this? Wouldnt other cushion cut diamonds, have the same issue?

thanks!

Victor must be used to dealing with extremely picky people if he thinks that fractions of a millimeter of girdle is something worth mentioning. Yes, H&A cushion girdles tend to be thinner at the corners and thick on the sides.

I think all three look great. The first two look like H&A, but the third looks like a different modern cut. Is it an ERD X-factor? I could be way off. I'm certainly no expert on cushions.

Excellent guess! I think I know which one I love and I hope she loves it too!

I was a little worried when VC emailed me on that girdle stuff but with Julie's input and a couple of others I feel okay that the H&A would look flushed and hopefully amazing in a double halo! I think hand crafted is outside of my budget, so looks like I'm going with CAD. I'm not sure who to go with for that but leaning towards ERD.

Well, I've never worked with ERD personally, but I've heard nothing but great things about their work. It's also easier to use the same vendor for both setting and stone. Covers insurance and it means that you don't have to worry about shipping. As for the girdle, like Julie said, a mm or less is next to nothing. Everything seems huge when you're looking at 40x magnified images, but IRL the difference should be negligible. I actually prefer to see the girdle in a halo.

I am likely going to get the diamond from GOG but get ERD to make the setting. Once all ready, likely fly to NYC with my girlfriend and propose in NYC!

With all that said, if I do this I am thinking either GOG and/or ERD may need to charge NY state tax. If this is the case, I will have it all shipped to Mich. and then shipped back to NYC.

Ahh. I see. Well, GOG also does CAD work if you're interested in using them. Just give them a call. I believe they will charge sales tax if you pay for it in NYC. You might be able to get out of it it you pay online in advance, though? I'm not sure how all of that works. A proposal trip to NYC sounds awesome. I'm sure that she'll love the ring AND the trip. :)

Thank you for that!!

Does anyone see any potential issues with an H+A in a double halo? or will it look amazing?

thanks again!!!

I like the first two diamonds.

For CAD work I personally would use ERD, hands down. I have not used them, but Charmypoo is extremely picky and has mentioned that she thought ERD did the best CAD pave she saw in person. I have also been very impressed with the work posted here on PS by ERD.

Thank you Dreamer! I saw this: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/looking-for-loose-cushion-cut-diamond-for-engagement-ring.165128/page-2 and thought that they did an amazing job!

I really like the H+A but read another thread where people thought a regular modern cushion is better. In your opinions is the premium for an H+A worth it..or should I go for an X Factor from ERD (3rd aset above)
