Art Deco Inspired Ringdant with EC Imperial Topaz from Jeff White

My contribution so far... grown up coloring. :)

I use a lot of "crop to shape" in powerpoint to mock up designs from photos.

To scale in your design, these are the stone sizes that fit:

2 2.2mm cornflower sapphires
2 1.8mm cornflower sapphires
2 1.8mm diamonds
4 1.5mm diamonds
4 1mm diamonds

I think your designs could benefit from getting slightly bigger because you could fit more visually striking stones. If this design were a bit larger the sides of the design could take 1mm diamonds and the larger stones in the big elements would get more visually striking.

One of the things I looked at is how to surround your stone with a design that creates a golden rectangle. It's really close to golden rectangle anyway so any design that preserves similar dimensions does it. All of your designs are close to the golden rectangle.

Excellent, many thanks for that.

I would probably use a less intense/saturated colour, and with a hint of green, as in ocean/sea blue-green kind of colour.

I prefer blue-greens rather and true blues, if you know what I mean.

Need to have the stone in hand and then play with colour combinations.

However many thanks for suggestions and mock ups.

DK :))

JMHO of course but I find the blue stones a little distracting. It's such a large stone with the fancy surround that I don't think it needs anything else. I'd do it in white metal and diamonds only.

I have planned to add a second colour to the mix, just not one that is so intense.

Here is my colour combination idea which is more subtle and pleasing to me:

Or, if doing sidestones, pink ones might look good too.

Hmmmm, not sure if I like pink on pink, prefer a bit more contrast myself.

However, thanks for the suggestion.

No prize in spotting that I like the combination of pink and ocean blue, just need to find the right shades in both:

Art deco inspiration. It usually combines both the linear of number 6 with a couple of contrasting sweeping lines. I think everything you have here is lovely. I am partial to this one.

Me too. Stunning ❤️

Numbers 1, 5, 6 and 8 for me! The others are a bit too flower-like and, for me, lose the lovely clean lines of a Deco ring.

IMHO I wouldn't add coloured sidestones as it detracts from the gorgeous setting and your centre stone. Your eyes go straight to the sides. I think, if you want coloured accents, a light pink might work but honestly, I'd stick to diamonds. I think 6 is winning it for me at the moment because I can see it with gorgeous baguettes and round diamonds!

Just looking at 6 again (which is waaaaaaay out in front for me), I would push the sides out a bit and add another round on each side because at the moment the balance is a bit off.

I think color contrast is a matter of taste and it's fair for people to love it and hate it. I personally love it, and it is often used by "high jewelry" designers like JAR.

Not all of these designs may be deco enough, but sharing some more ideas.

Yavorskyy... sharing this one because I am considering using a similar design but instead of large rose cut diamonds, taking inexpensive pear-cut zircons with a deep pavilion and flipping them upside down as rose cuts. I have twelve of them and they look pretty awesome flipped upside down!

Finally this was a design I was playing around with for another purpose and I altered a few of the dimensions to put your stone in. I think the sea-green row would look better next to the imperial topaz and the outer row as diamonds but by the time I decided that I was tired. :)

And this was from a ring on Loupetroop that is ALMOST an art-deco Egyptian design. Art deco combined wih Egyptian Revival in amazing designs and it would not be hard to alter the design to stylized lotus flowers.

Just curious....where do you see yourself wearing this confection? Would it be evening wear or daily wear?

Fancinating, thanks for the inspirations and suggestions!

I may have to cough up for Photoshop or something similar in order to play with this a bit more!

I love colours, however, I am not too keen on mixing colours in the same piece of jewellery, and have only have 2 rings to date with more than 1 colour.

I have a few bypass rings in the setting queue though.

Definitely an occasional piece for dressier events.

I agree about the art deco look of 1,5 & 6 being the best

Super cool art deco earrings that resemble a few of your designs!

1606280269347.png

I love all types of step cuts, that's for certain!

Interesting to see the Emeralds in this pair of earrings have rounded corners, and I have never come across them until now, thanks for sharing!

Have you made any revisions to your lovely designs, or a decision?

I was inspired by this thread to buy an elongated emerald-cut yellow zircon, smaller than yours at 11.5 x 7.5, but similar in proportion.

That's a beautiful stone! How are you going to set it please?

It will be a while before I set my stone, so please don't hold your breath!

Hah hah, no I insist on holding my breath until you set your lovely stone in one of these beautiful and opinionated designs!! :kiss2: :lol-2:

I'm not totally sure yet, but the color and dispersion make it look like a fancy vivid yellow diamond, and so I'm thinking about an alternative engagement ring design! My ring finger is about 3.5-3.75 which would help the zircon with finger coverage. I got it in Gemland's black friday promotion on the Gemrockauctions site.

@Polyhex you have slender/small fingers!

My LH ring finger is about 8.25 to 8.5 US, and the middle finger is 10.5+ US depending on the setting!!!

That is an asset -- more gemstones fit!! :kiss2: Most of my rings wind up being wider than my finger! #gemproblems

Just posting a Art Deco design that I stumbled across:
1609884833382.png I would love the idea of setting the pink emerald cut with some onyx and diamonds for contrast.

Oh that's lovelly
we almost brought an art deco house
We spent two weeks dreaming of art deco wallpaper and paint combos
There are lots of art deco houses here and some have the most beautiful detailing
(Then we looked through the house - now known to us as broken dream on Pitt street)

My favorite Art Deco designs come from vintage Raymond Yard. I would Google that phrase for ideas.

Wow, onyx & diamonds with that topaz would be utterly divine!
I'm sure it's not your style but someone must do it someday! Gorg!

Following this thread as I love all of your fun and fab ideas!
