You are all very sweet, thanks. For the hundreds of calls I take that I am called names, hung up on, yelled at, told how worthless I am, or that aren''t all that pressing, its the one that is and when you can make a difference that can make the entire week worthwhile. For every one person I can help or that I can save, I feel like what I do really counts.

Another thing that makes me happy.. stuff with glitter, or swarvoski crystals or something like that.. shirts, hats, cups, ribbons, wreaths.. what ever.. they make me smile.
DITTO! and rhinestones on clothes that spell stuff... like ''Bridesmaid'' even when they aren''t on me!! I just smile because I know they are apart of something really wonderful!

YES!!! There''s a store downtown San Diego that I call the girlie store.. it is filled with things like this.. I love it!!! It also has little glittered fairies hanging down. Gosh if I wasnt married, my house would be filled with pink and glitter. LOL

in answering if i am happy i would weigh the things that make me happy and the things that dont and see what there is more of. i am not really happy, but plain old happy will do it. i dont wake up everyday dreading it so i think that means im happy

i think that a broad answer of what happiness is doesnt fit everyone. different things make different people happy. for instance for some people to be happy they need to be making a difference in someone elses life and there are other people that are happy because they have alot of money. i think that if people arent happy they simply need to change whatever it is that they think their life is lacking. then again there are miserable people that no matter what they will never be happy

Interesting topic. It's my opinion that happiness is a choice, and also that happiness is a term used to describe whether one is able to cope with everything life throws their way. In other words, you can let life defeat you and bring you down, or you can realize that life is just a series of events (some good, some bad) and roll with the punches while choosing to stay positive.

I have to say that for the most part I think I am happy. I have dealt with a lot of negative things in my lifetime, but I choose to also remember the good things and that keeps me going and thinking positive. I have lots of reasons to be unhappy, but I also have lots of reasons to be happy! I find my relationships with friends, my work, my family, and the ways I contribute to society/community keep me feeling fulfilled and like my life is on a positive track.
I agree completely with Monnie!

I personally think we make our own happiness. I had someone ask how I could be so happy and I shrug and said for the most part I chose it each day when I woke up. I know there are people on quests for happiness. Honestly I think the more one searches the chances of them finding it through constant searching won't work and really it is within ones self (unless some one is depressed or other things) but for the most part that is what I believe.

It is understandable though if there are stressors in life to be a bit down.

eta: Bliss I agree with what you say and that makes sense to me

Most days I am.. I see the glass as half full.

You can choose to be happy, you can choose to be miserable.

I choose to be happy. But right now, I am in the midst of dealing with a Father that is involved in a big scam and is making poor choices. That has definitely put a damper on my spirits. I may be pissed, but am still relatively happy.

I''m happy. I have had and still have a lot of bad days, but in the end, it''s happiness that wins out. I have a lot to be thankful for and a lot that sparks my inner happiness each day.

I think everyone has had really interesting responses! For me Italiahaircolor sum up a lot with the sex and the city quote, and I really agree with what radiantquest said... but after reading all these good posts, I should answer the questions myself!

So what does happiness mean to me? For me it''s very much what Italiahaircolor wrote. I get happiness out of little things, like laying with my cat, my SO kissing me ever so softly, or finding that extra time to take a bubble bath... To me happiness is small acts of love.

Is it a tangible emotion in my life? Yes... I have been unhappy enough to know when I am happy.

Would you describe yourself as a happy person? No. I like to think that in a perfect world I am a happy person, but honestly I am an unhappy person. It is much easier for me to be unhappy than happy. I like being happy, I aim for happiness, I do things to make me happy, but initially I am unhappy.

Would I say I have a fulfilling and meaningful life? Not yet. I''m sculpting my life to be fulfilling and meaningful. I like to think right now my life is both for my SO and my pets and my friends, but for me to truly believe I have a fulfilling and meaningful life is when I begin my career in social work... It doesn''t end with that, I just see that as a milestone.

I''m a lot more like my father- introverted, tend to get depressed easily, stubborn- and though I envy my mother''s contented-ness often enough, I also wonder if I would have made as good a life for myself, if I was an easily contented person.

Day to day, for myself, I''d say I''m happier than I ever have been. But my nature isn''t to be content like my mom. That being said, I''ve learned how to manage some of my larger personality flaws that can be obstacles much better; that tends to keep me happier and less likely to get actually depressed... that and eating and exercizing.
Ditto! It''s not in my nature to be cheerful and I just lack that sunny disposition some people have. But I''m working on it and as LittleGreyKitten said, I''m happier now than ever before. I have a husband who loves me and I love him insanely so that definitely helps to keep me smiling

It actually becomes easier to appreciate the little things in life with practice. It sounds stupid, but it''s like training a muscle-it seems hard at first, but once you get it going, it just starts working by itself. So yes, I consider myself happy.
