I have no idea about setting.Btw DF, I may probably be having rose gold shank with platinum head for the ring. Should I have any concern on the hardness, strength, porosity issue etc. on BGD setting knowing it should be all cast? Can you share your view, as You are one of the best party to say something on this with your extensive experience with them![]()
It was true that I didn't think we would upgrade / replace our Ering stone when I bought the ring 2 years back, because I hoped and thought I had found the best gem I could. Unfortunately (or actually luckily:]) I kept looking into the diamond stuffs and discovered the diamond world is much bigger than we were told. Finally, it's worth all the time and effort to awaiting our BGD stone with the only step left is the ring building. It feels good.
This is the first superideal for my wife, will we be upgrading again? I have nothing against it, with the only resistance is this gem being more and more sentimental for us~

It might mean there was no problem on your pieces? It's not a bad thing~I have no idea about setting.I'm sure the setting experts will be along soon to comment.
It's definitely helpful. Congratulations for having a treasurable ring that stands the test of time!I have a 3 stone e-ring which has an 18ct yellow gold shank with a platinum head. I’ve been wearing it since 1998 and have had no issues at all, if that helps!
knowing that you'll upgrade in the future?.
Q for those PSers who said they will never upgrade did you change your mind?![]()
Interesting question.
I will preface all this and say that every decision we make in life, diamond related or not, should always be based on the best information we have available at the time. Doing so ensures that even if the information changes later, or things fail, then we can accept responsibility for making the wrong decision but find peace in knowing that although it may not have worked in our favor, it was indeed the best solution at that specific time and point based on the information available to us then.
Life changes. Situations change. Our best calculations get proven wrong. Our desires and budgets change.
So yes, I think you pull the trigger and buy what you want now as long as you can reasonably be sure it meets your needs, desires and budget. When and if those things change, then visit the possibility of an upgrade as it comes. Or even a downgrade. We make the assumption life will always get better for us. In reality, many times people have wealth and then lose it for one reason or another and must make sacrifices to stay afloat. Add some sentimental value in with that scenario and the situation gets really sticky.
I used to think that when I gave my fiancee a ring I wanted her to wear it forever. One and done. However, if done right, can't that ring change and grow as your love for one another does the same thing? What makes the ring sentimental is the emotion involved with it. As long as that emotion remains in the upgrade, replacement ring, etc woudn't the sentimental aspect transfer to the new piece?
+1!I’m a sentimental sap, and I know myself well enough to know that it would be very difficult for me to trade in my EC for an upgrade. However, I’m not opposed to purchasing a new, larger stone, and moving my ER to my RH & wearing a new diamond with my wedding set, or vice-versa! I’m sentimental, not crazy or stupid...lol!!![]()
If i had an upgrade policy I would do it.

I would think so!I didn't think about upgrading, DF wanted to upgrade my diamond. Pre PS, he proposed with a D color MRB that was 2.21 ct with another 1.8 cts on the band. Then, I found PS and would share info when I learned something new or saw something on here that I liked. She was replaced with a 3.39 ct OEC. Just a thought, though: Is it an upgrade when you still have the original ring?
They will upgrade the wife first before upgrading the diamond.
