I cant comment on a jaffe... but that ring would be very hard / impossible to wear a wedding band with - something to think of. Also- its very very unusual... does your so like unusual pieces?

My opinion (fell free to ignore), I dont like the way the halo changes the shape of the oval. It just looks off to me.
That ring has a lot going on...is your GF pretty stylish? Does she like attention? Does she wear larger jewelry?

A Jaffe is a good brand and should be good quality.

Re: Anyone have this A. Jaffe Oval Bubble Prong Engagement R

Hi tmichael,

This might be long, so I apologize for that in advance.

Before stumbling upon Pricescope, I was a fan of A. Jaffe styles myself. I looked at many of them in real life, at the Shreve and Company store in SF. If you don't already know, Shreve is a very high end and respected SF B&M store. Anyhoo, the settings looked nice to me and my inexperienced eye. Really nice when set with a gorgeous diamond. These settings are NOT cheap. I looked at a plain platinum setting, which ran around $2K. No side stones, nothing. I was told it would take 6-8 weeks, and they built it custom. CAST, not hand forged, but at least custom to my stone. I can tell that you want a beautiful piece for your fiance, and you are willing to pay for it.

Then comes Pricescope. And then I saw all the beautiful settings here, which when seen IRL are even more stunning. I'm just saying that if you want something really beautiful (which I can tell you do) and are willing to fork out for it, please be willing to look at more settings and vendor and artisans, which are really who you can be introduced to on Pricescope. It broadened my horizons, and I did a reset, even after spending over $4K on a setting.

Now, with regard to the setting you chose, it's unique and pretty. Here are some logistical concerns. This setting is high, meaning that the center stone is set high, which means that it can whack on stuff. I know. My first reset was high and I whacked it all the time. Maybe your GF is super careful and will baby it. That may give it some protection. Two. From the side, there are gaps everywhere in setting, from the point where the shank hits the stone, the crisscross of the shank, to where it sits on her finger. A little awkward in the flow of the ring. One piece of reality is if your GF works at a desk, she will see the side of the ring WAY more than she will see the top view. Will all those gaps and airlines bother her. You and she may not know until she actually wears it. I figured it out the hard way, and had to spend $4K and two years to figure out it bothered me. And that extra piece of metal below the halo is also awkward, like it doesn't fit with the rest of the ring. Three. From the top down, the two larger round side stones distracts from the center stone. WEll, to me it does. It pulls my attention away from the center and makes me focus on it. And with the shank starting there and splitting, that draws my eye away from the center stone even more. So, if you are OK with the center stone not being the focus and you want and like the uniqueness of the ring style as a whole, then that is totally ok. I am all about my center stone, and want to see that and have my setting complement and highlight my center stone more than anything else. What would your GF want? Lastly, A. Jaffe prongs. I have seen these IRL, and they are those cute, fat prongs that look like little bubbles on top of the stone. But from a practical stand point, let me share my experience of seeing these prongs on my finger for two years, as my old one had fat prongs. These suckers reflect light, and the bigger they are the more light they reflect. So rounded like that they would distract my eye from the center stone. And the roundness fights with the sharp arrow of light reflections coming from the diamond. I finally figured out why so many Pricescopers go for "claw" prongs, because they are sharp and the shape of the prong is consistent with the faceting of a round brilliant stone. (Sorry, don't know what kind of stone you are going for. I am assuming round.)

Now, about price. In platinum, I can tell from A. Jaffe website that it would run you from at least $4500, and upward. For that price, can you do better? I define better as more finely wrought platinum, more thought and practicality in design, sharp claw prongs, hand made and not cast setting, etc. My answer is definitely yes. Please check out these threads and see for yourself. I'm not saying you should get these rings. I'm saying you should observe how detailed and finely done the work by these artists. Very little metal, thoughtful design. Look at how closely set to the halo the center stone is. No awkward gaps. Beautiful delicate claw prongs. You will see many PSers have amazing photography skills.

There are some other beautiful artists here. Erika Winter's styles are very modern yet with a romantic and antique feel.

You can go to their websites and just look at the styles they offer.

hand forged in platinum
Victor Canera
Leon Mege
Steven Kirsch

Brilliantly Engaged - You would need to tell them you want hand forged (if you do)

There are just so many examples on Pricescope. You can search and tons will pop up.

So if none of these styles is your cup of tea, and you love they A. Jaffe style go for it. I just wanted you to be aware of your options, what's out there, before you committed. And you did ask for opinions. Sorry mine is so long. ;-)

I hadn't thought about the wedding ring so thanks for the input and I'll have to explore options for that I guess if I want to move forward with this ring.

My GF isn't showy really. But she has mentioned that she doesn't necessarily want the standard small band, round halo like everyone else seems to be getting these day. She wants something a little unique and doesn't mind bigger bands and infinity (or twisted) style of band.

The pictures online are terrible for that ring. I took a couple at the store and I think the ring looks better in person.

Leon has a twisted band halo.

Victor does a version of this too.

Notice how in both the shanks flow fluidly and in a less obtrusive way from the center stone than the A. Jaffe one does? Well, at least in my opinion. I prefer Victor's version b/c the tighter braid draws the eye away from the center less, but to each his own, right?
