What are the rest of your specs? Pictures very welcome!

by steep I mean like 35 and over. I''ve seen idealscope images on lots of different angle combos but would like to see some real life pics if anyone''s got them.

These are some pictures before I turned in my setting for repair. My diamond is from pre-PS days, and it has a 35.5 crown angle. Now that I found PS, I realize that I can get a much LARGER diamond for a slightly higher price and get a nicer cut!

Another one!

(I have more but I can''t seem to figure out how to decrease my file size to be less than 100kb without sacrificing image quality. Oh well ^_^)

That''s still a pretty diamond! I wouldn''t throw it out, that''s for sure.

Thanks tradergirl!

Now, I might sound like a nerd, but I actually memorized my diamond specs (gosh, did I just admit that in public?)

It''s CA 35.5, PA 40.8, Table 55, Depth 62.3. It also has a really long LGF...85%. It''s not that great in the HCA, but in real life, it''s a really sparkly nice diamond :) I was 100% happy with my diamond, until I found Pricescope. Now I feel like I could do better! Anyone else feel this way?

That is precisely why I am posting, shortee! Your diamond is definitely a beauty and it''s good to know others feel the way I do. I thought I was getting an ideal cut because my GIA cert says ideal make and excellent cut. Little did I know!!! The HCA doesnt score my stone well at all (yours beats mine-- I am a nerd too and I checked
21.gif
) and it took me way longer than my return period to even realize that I could have done better. I will eventually recut it because in some lighting conditions the I can see leakage and it bothers me. I already wrote a few posts about recutting it and I can do it without losing much weight, but I want to really be sure before I do it cause you can''t reverse that!!! For the time being I just wanted to know if others had similar stones to mine and how they felt about them. My fiance thinks I''m way too neurotic and should leave it alone, but he doesn''t take it personally because I picked it in the first place. Yours is steep like mine but not as deep on the pavilion so I''m a little jealous

But it is gorgeous and I appreciate your reply so THANKS!!

Hi Kelli,

Mine has

Table: 57%
CA: 35.2 degrees
PA: 40.9 degrees
TTl Dpth: 61.9%
LGF: 75%

Hi Kelli,

I think sometimes we detail-oriented people tend to overanalyze and get a little carried away! I thought my diamond was the best (GIA triple EX) until the HCA said that it''s only good if the "price is right". I wonder why I need to try to make the HCA happy, when the only person that matters is ME! So I''m at peace with my diamond, for now at least :) I am still a complete newbie, so I don''t even know what leakage means, but I don''t want to know if I have it, because then I''ll lose even more sleep over my "imperfect" diamond. I''m telling ya, ignorance is bliss!

One thing that I did that made me fall in love with my diamond again (even after the HCA results), is clean it really well and take it out for a nice stroll outside. It was blindingly sparkly :) I purchased a cheap ultrasonic from ebay and it basically saved me thousands of dollars (if you look at my old posts, you''ll see that I came to pricescope with the purpose of upgrading my diamond, but now that I love my diamond again, I am postponing that upgrade until my tenth year wedding anniversary).

I think sometimes we have to take a step back and realize that there are lots of important things in life, and although a perfect diamond would be great, for me at least, it''s not going to change my life ALL THAT MUCH. I think we should remind ourselves of this frequently, so we don''t go into the "deep-spiral-of-self-doubt" about our diamonds. (PS: This are just my thoughts and I hope I didn''t offend anyone!)

And, here are some more shots of my ring, taken with my point-and-shoot a few weeks ago. (My hubby thinks I am ABSOLUTELY crazy taking pictures of my ring)

Another one!

lisa, all your rings are GORGEOUS!! I wish my diamond had arrows *pout*

My wife''s e-ring is a steep crown stone.
35.5cr
40.7pav
56.5 table

Now let me try these photo''s...

I think it is pretty nice but I haven''t had a lot to compare against
2.gif
She seems to get lots of coloured flash coming off which is nice and is possibly due to the higher crown angle.

As for the HCA...it is a great tool that Garry has generously put out there for us to use but it probably shouldn''t be considered in isolation or to be the be all end all of diamond assessment. Good Old Gold has a great page on the HCA

Shortee,

I was just thinking the same thing about your delicious ring!

I thought, "Hmm, the band is so exquisite and that diamond is so white and I love the entire ensemble, maybe I should..........HAHAHAHA."

Funny so yours is not a Super Ideal, neither is mine (although I still think that remains to be determined for us both) and I am still pining away at what I don''t have and u do!

As for the arrows, I had no idea they were there until I got on PS started freaking out about my diamond and took some pics - lo and behold there they were!

I bet if you block the light source with your camera you''ll find them too!

Look at Pieface''s diamond! Loads of arrows there!

BTW: seems the HCA favors lower CA but remember everything works in concert with one another. Ultimately it''s how the diamond looks to u that matters!!!!!

Hehe, this is so funny, because the more I see pictures like YOURS, the more I long for a simple solitaire setting. In fact, I''m pretty much set on a solitaire setting for my upgrade in 6 years :) I hope I don''t change my mind by then. The delicate band with the tiny scallops definitely fits my girly personality (and everyone who meets me says "This ring is so you!") but the older I get, the more I find myself leaning in favor of the classics. Same with clothes :)

I''m actually getting a hearts & arrows scope from WF (comes free with my earrings!) so I can''t wait to check out my diamond with that scope. Who knows, maybe it will have arrows~! :)

pieface - the diamond is soooo clean and pure looking, especially in the second shot! It''s gorgeous!

Thanks everyone! You all have very beautiful rings, which is exactly what I wanted to see! I do love the girly-ness of yours, shortee, AND I love the simple solitaires as well. The stack picture makes me look forward to having a few more bands to stack with my own solitaire
16.gif
You are right I do get carried away with details sometimes. At first I didn''t bother to run mine thru the HCA. I didn''t do that until I did notice the weirdness of mine in a few different types of lighting. Then I looked it up
38.gif
Shouldn''t have done that, because I already have it and not knowing WHY it does that would have been easier for sure! I have to remember that if it took me a month and a half to realize it wasn''t perfect then it really can''t be all that bad. I still get compliments on my beautiful diamond all the time anyway, so I probably am just looking way too hard. Knowing that I (most likely) can have the angles "fixed" in the future makes me happy, but I am now back to the point where I''m happy with it anyway. You are absolutely right that there are WAY more important things in life. Between those things if I happen to look down at my hand I''ll enjoy my ring whether it''s perfect or not!

By the way you all take great pictures! Thanks again for sharing them and have fun with your new earrings and scope shortee

Hi Kelli where are pics of your baby?????

Gotta show that sucka off!

No pics yet

No camera. My fiance has one but I don''t know where it is. Will have to borrow it soon!

OK we''re waiting...........

Mine has an CA of 36.0 and I love my diamond. It sparkles like mad in natural light and stores, and then not so much in candlelight, is that normal for a steep crown angle? I never knew anything about all of this stuff and either did my Fi, but I get so many compliments from others and no one would ever know it scored poorly on the HCA.

Yeah, same thing happened to me. Of course I don't have a RB...but I'll share anyway. My diamond is terribly gorgeous but when I got onto Pricescope I learned that it has too low a crown, too big a table, and is slightly too deep (but only slightly...and the large table makes up for the face-up spread). But, again...it's just lovely and beautiful and I still love it, despite its slight misgivings.

So well said!!!! I also saved thousands of dollars by buying an us machine!!!! It made me love my diamond like never before!!!!

Whereas before the us machine I wanted a divorce!!!!!

Knowing what I do about how fragile and randome life is, I am really gratefull that we have the time and freedom to be able to `worry` about our diamonds. I admit that for me even being able to dedicate time to thinking about diamonds shows that Im very fortunate in this world!!!!! So as much as I obsess and think about diamonds, Im never far off from reality and that they are just a fun luxury for entertainment.......and Im just a big diamond loving whore!!!!
2.gif
Did I just say that!!!!!

Beautiful ring, fabulous photography skills....and I love the gold prongs!!!!
30.gif

So far I haven''t see as Strmrdr would say a "woofer" in the bunch!

Sabina OMG! that band for e-ring is devine I need more pics/angles!

Mike - your story about seeing the best diamond for you was wonderful. Don''t get me wrong HCA is an important tool
but will never trump your own eyes.

PS can be such an exacting environment. Although I do see arrows sometimes I don''t want to see them all the time - but
that''s just me. Some of the ACA and H&A are distracting IMO. I prefer a more scattered brilliance.

But check back w/ me in say 10 mins. and my opinions are sure to change!

Your ring is lovely! At the end of the day, numbers only mean so much :) I think our eyes are the best judges for diamond!

I love my US machine! I''ve cleaned so many people''s rings at the workplace that I''ve been getting special requests for cleanings :) LOL. I just tell them that I''m getting my cleaning urge fulfilled (I''m currently 9 months pregnant and the ''nesting'' bug has hit hard!)

Yup, we are definitely fortunate that we have the time and luxury to obsess over diamonds. I really need to keep perspective though, as my hubby likes to remind me :) But Pricescope sure helps me pass the time during my work day!!!
