Are you happy with it?

How does it compare to what you see on this forum?

Thanks!

Do a search on Shane Co, you''ll find lots of threads to read.

Well, just wanted to chime in here with my experience.

I went on a princess cut search and actually started at Shane Co because in the Bay Area (where I''m from) we get bombarded with their commercials. I''ve had several friends also buy from them and they were very happy. Plus, I''d not heard of pricescope yet.

They have great service. They generally have a great showroom with nice music and lighting (I''ve been to 4 of their stores). They offer you something to drink and maybe a cookie. Everyone is well dressed and friendly.

We looked at some stones and they actually had a large variety of larger stones to look at. What I didn''t know at the time was that they were usually in house graded and did not have outside certs. They also priced them about $10,000 more than what you can get on pricescope.

They don''t have ASETs, but you can look under a scope. They have no way to give an objective opinion about princess stones.

I really liked dealing with them, but I could not buy a center stone from them because they would not even talk about negotiating the price, even after I mentioned pricescope.

I ended up buying a stone from another PS vendor and having it set at Shane Co in the band my gf wanted (pics coming, it looks outstanding).

They initially told me that setting the stone would only cost $1.50 a point. They tried to bill me for the platinum head for an additional $360, but the agreed to not charge me since that was not the original verbal agreement. Overall, I think it was a really nice experience.

Ditto....

I have a Shane Classic with an AGS certification. It is an E VS1 Ideal Cut with a AGS0 rating and comes in at 1.5 on the cut advisor. I could not be happier with it. I really like having a store I can walk in to and have my ring cleaned, sized, checked, etc instead of having to worry about shipping it somewhere. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

ETA: They will not give you any price break. A diamond with the same specs from WF was about $600 more (it is .53 ct.) but being able to hand it over directly to a sales person was worth a little extra money to me). I've had to have my wrings sized 3 times now and love being able to drop it off and pick it up within a day or two.

I bet 80% of their customers are happy. And then there''s the other 20%, given what people have posted on here about them. For me, it''s like ebay. Anything less than 98% happy customers and I''m OUT OF THERE.

If you want to deal in person, surely there''s a local place that might be more trustworthy? A family jeweler?

Sad news....

Hubby is absolutely against buying online

He thought the stones we saw today were very pretty. He is not a jewelry or diamond person, so to him it was just crazy. He isn''t going to budge.

Oh well

The ones we saw today were nice. I let him help me pick it out and we are going to go with a well cut f vs2 (probably more a vvs2) 1.51 carat 6.3 x 6.3 stone, still very pretty (no cert with it

but definately nice). I will post pictures when I pick it up after it''s set. They also said if it appraises for any less than the purchase price they will give me the difference back. I also have 120 days no questions asked return policy (not that I can convince the hubby, I have to respect the little imput he had on the whole process).

Thanks for all the help, wish I could have used more of the advice I was given.

The Shane company does offer diamonds with certs from GIA,EGL,and AGS.As Marcyc was saying they have AGS0 ideal certed diamonds called shane classics. If the diamond is lost out of the mounting or chipped they replace it for life and the mounting is re-sized,rhodium plated, and retipped for life free. The rhodium plating is done while you wait.

Yeah, I bought my setting from them and their customer service is outstanding. I had issues with the first setting since my size is so small, and the diamonds are channel set, had the set for about 8 months and they replaced the whole thing, no questions asked, no cost to me. So I do feel confident in that they stand behind their product. The fact they hand you the stone with the loop and say "there is a flaw at 6 o''clock" or whatever. And their lifetime trade up policy is great also, no having to spend double on diamonds (settings/jewelry, yes, diamonds, no).

Their loose stones have the cut ratings (makes) on their package listed as 0, 1, 2, etc. So if you can sneak a peak at the package you can gather that info even if the stone doesn''t have a certificate with it. My husband would not allow me to buy my ering online; he very much wants the luxury of going somewhere to pick it out and to have someone to take it to for service. I am sure you''ll be very happy with your ring; I cannot wait to see it.

I didn''t realize their upgrade policy on loose stones or studs was so lenient until Christmas shopping this year. As long as you trade a stone or studs (gemstones included) for $5 more you can upgrade. Their jewelry and settings can only be upgraded if you spend double on them.

I am glad you are happy with it. I think I will be also. I didn''t know to look for a number on the package (even though she had them all laying out), but there wasn''t another princess in the store that was better cut to compare it too (they didn''t have any AGS 0). Like I said though I''ve dealt with the same salesperson the whole time, and I know she was looking out for what I want, I will ask about it when I pick it up. I forgot, because she had told me that (even though I don''t think they are supposed to advertise it) like 8 months ago, and I just forgot about their cut grades, oops

I do think it''s a really great place, their jewelry is more expensive, but the simple reason to that is that it is better quality (cannot speak for the online jewelers). The stones they have set in their pendents are at least G/H SI1/SI2 for rounds (even the small stones) and for all princess cuts they are at least F/G VS2/VS1 (since they show color more than rounds), they are white and very sparkly
30.gif
. Someone told me I was just paying more for the name like "Tiffanys" but I really think it is the quality. They offer to let you loop check all the jewelry they show you, and you don''t see that in a lot of stores. I looped a setting I had gotten at Kays and everything was so included (like black!) they were J/I (and yes, they looked yellow next to Shane Co''s diamonds in a similar setting) I2/I3. I way overpaid for the setting I got at Kays, a similar (same diamond weight) in platinum was only $100 more at Shane Co than the WG horrible diamond one from Kays

, now, I do not recommend Kays (unless you don''t care what kind of quality you are getting).

I saw your pendent in the case, it is beautiful. That is my next conquest, I dare not ask for it for a while though, LOL! I didn''t even ask to see it, for fear of hubby''s reaction LOL! Another thing I love is the onsite jewelers, so all sizing, polishing, plating, etc can be done there. Platinum is usually like 48 hours, just because it takes longer, but a lot of times you can just wait for things. They had to order in a head for the setting, but it will be completely done by Wednesday!

I know that a lot of places send out the jewelry to be polished/sized/plated, etc and it takes 10-14 business days every time you want to do anything to it!

Sparkles, I am sure you''ll love your ring. It sounds like it will be a real beauty. I can''t wait to see it. I found out about their rating system from a relative that worked for them briefly. I agree that their jewelry is better or equal quality than any of the stores I''ve visited including very high priced / high end stores in Denver. I like that they have jewelers on sight; when we bought my wrings they mounted the stone, sized the rings and put the bands together for me in a few hours since we live out of town. My husband never knows what to get me for Christmas or my birthday but he always knows where he is going to buy it.

I hope you get to add a pendant to your collection soon.
