Hello, Any thoughts on comparing these two engagement rings?

Tiffany Embrace, .63ct, G, VVS1, Excellent, Platinum Setting $10700CAD

Birks 18791HL, .53ct, G, VS2, Excellent, White Gold Setting $8375CAD

Thanks a million.

Those two settings seem pretty expensive to me, you should do a bit more research.

Thanks for your thoughts. I have been looking at reputed brand retail stores as opposed to online as I don't have the luxury of waiting for the rings to be shipped.

Would you have any suggestions on what you think these rings should be priced at?

when do you need the ring by??

Yes when do you need the ring by? If you purchased this stone which will face like 1 carat on the hand;

And put it into this setting;

You will have a nicer looking and IMHO better quality ring than your Tiffany one. It will end up a similar price.

We are simply saying you are paying a premium for these products when there are other products as nice, if not much nicer out there. Plus you have not given us the actual stats of each diamond. We all could probably find you a bigger better priced centre stone with similar or better stats - ie possibly a better cut (which gives the diamond the fire and sparkle) than your choices.

so, a few comparisons for you.

hers a stone with an H&A cut (absolutely NOT guaranteed, even though youre buying from a fancy high end jeweler ) 2 grades higher in color, OVERKILL on clarity, and about the same size as the bigger stone your considering.

put it in that VC its probably 5k, or go though ERD and its going to be like 3k... thats a mega saving of thousands

I understand wanting to propose on a specific timeline, but consider this. Are you willing to OVERSPEND on a smaller diamond that she will wear for years, if not the rest of her life, just to fit a too tight timeline??

ETA: sorry i assumed it was a classic tiffany, so sorry for the edits.

You are going to have to post the pictures of the Birks ring in order for anyone to be able to estimate price (or is it like the embrace?). The Embrace is a very standard halo setting that will run you $3000-4000 to have custom made, but there are similar settings such as by Gabriel and Co. that might be available sooner and cost less.

a .52 G VS2 super ideal cut diamond will run about $2000 (US), so a setting for a 1 ct or smaller stone might cost $2000-4500 depending on who makes it.

a .62 G VS1 is around $2700:

So you would be paying about double to buy the Tiffany ring, and I think that is pretty crazy, personally. I am a Tiffany fan but only buy their expensive pieces second hand where the price comes down to a more realistic figure. You have a budget that will allow you to buy a 1 ct ideal cut diamond and halo setting if you buy online. I just wouldn't consider either of those rings. It is FAR better, in my opinion, to order a 1 ct stone and have it set in a plain solitaire for the proposal (which can be done very quickly if you go through someone like WF), and then do the halo reset later if that is what she wants.

If you are willing to go online, heres a ring that has very much the same elements as tiffany one. And still a "brand" if thats what she is into :wavey: Just want you to see the options available

And they can have this made and set in a week. I just added both to my cart and got a $6000ish price and ready as early as this coming friday, though you'd have to call them about shipping to Canada. I certainly wouldn't pay tiffany prices for something as standard as the embrace.

I'd also mention this company sells a kind of metal that's sans nickel. That means she can west it without fear of allergic reaction. It also stays whiter and doesn't need replaying. So you could easily go to 14k and get a cheaper yet very white metal suitable for anyone.

Just an idea. I didn't know if you picked plat because of any particular reason.
