Antique Pocketwatches?

Does anyone know anything about pocketwatches? I'm looking at getting one for fiance as a wedding present, but have no clue on what a good brand is or where to purchase one I've been looking on ebay and found an Elgin and a Hampden that I like - the serial numbers seem to check out and the photos look good, but I don't really know what I'm looking for! @Dancing Fire is a watches man but I'm not sure if he's up on his pocket watches.

There is someone else on here who buys a lot of vintage watches - I can't think what their name is now, though!
