Antique or Reproduction?

Hi everyone! My boyfriend and I have been up and down the east coast looking for an authentic antique engagement ring. After about twenty stops we came across this beauty! It was traded by a customer to this specific jeweler because she had no attachment to her grandmothers ring. Any fellow antique lovers who can provide a guess on what period this is from? Real or repro? From what I gather this seems to be 1 carat old European cut(?), well worn, possibly platinum (so the jeweler tells me but no makers mark), and hand made (the decorations are far from perfect!)....(although I understand there are a lot of good reproductions)! My guess is Edwardian....regardless, I am in love with it. I wanted an old ring with a story...I’m hoping this is it!

I wish I had better pictures but I won’t until he proposes!!!

Thank you so much! Love the first link...very similar to mine!

I can make no comment as to the origins of that ring, although it looks pretty awesome. Two things - firstly, congratulations on your upcoming engagement, I'm super glad you found a ring you're ecstatic with! :kiss2:

Secondly, is there anywhere you can go to ensure that all the prongs are secure, don't need any maintenance, it's all nicely cleaned for you? Sorry if you've already done this but I just wanted to mention it - it would be a shame for anything to become loose especially if it's really that old. And it's clearly been incredibly well loved... and then less loved by someone who used it as a part exchange. It's incredibly lucky to have found such caring hands again. :)

Very pretty ring - congrats!

Very pretty ring! I'd definitely send it to someone like David Klass to have him do a little rehab. They can fix any issues such as the prongs, redo milgrain or engraving that is messed up, and make it lool more like it originally did. I have seen some amazing results when that is done.

The diamonds set in the shank look like modern cuts, and the beads setting those diamonds look like they have been worked on to make the stones secure. It might be an old mounting, but without a much closer look, it is not an easy one to call with assurance. It could be old and original, or old and recently modified, or a totally recent reproduction. The wear on the engraving might indicate the ring mounting is old, but it also can be reproduced that way to simply look old. You just can't tell at a distance.

Loving the style and the look are the things which really matter most.

Thank you so much. All so incredibly helpful!
