It looks beautiful in the photos and really looks great with your setting!
Question is do YOU love it or is there something that is telling you no?
I ask that because you don't seem to be 100% certain about it ~ when I got my stone, it was love at first sight, like you couldn't get it off my finger unless you killed me ~ LOL. To me that's when you know it's YOUR stone!!
Idk. I feel like a newbie. Like I don’t know what to look for!

The main difference I nocited between comparing “super ideal diamonds to not “so ideal” is super ideal has more sharp look , light flashes more sharp? But it only noticeable if you hold two stones side by side . It’s more easy to spot table difference and crown hight than sparkle and performance between two .:geek2:

I TOTALLY know what you mean!!
A good question to ask yourself and be really honest is ~ Do you love it and will it keep you happy and not make you want to look for another stone?

I’m kind of worried about the inclusions. Could they be blocking the contrast! Lol. I think it kind of looks bland bc my old one used to go dark but to me, it seemed to always be on fire

I wonder if you are wanting/expecting there to be more difference?

Maybe it is a hard decision because the difference doesn't smack you in the face if that makes sense?

Maybe you expected to see a 100% better stone but it is only 25% better?

I'm currently impatiently waiting for the right stone and I know when I see it, I will love it and I will know. If it's not love at first site, maybe it's not the right one???

Hi Nala,

I can only comment to a limited extent as trade. I honestly loved your first ring because of the setting now I realize. Seeing comparison photos, I would swap out your old stone because of its greenish/greyish tint if it is not only on the photos. But I doubt that it is only the pix since the new stone looks very bright for being the same color grade. The new stone has far better color and performance, the only thing I am wondering about whether it is eye clean. Additional clouds in an SI2 on the certificate are a worry to me, the stone did appear a bit hazy on a couple photos but perhaps only because the photos are blurry. I love the larger look in your old setting. Great proportions.

You have to test drive and check whether the stone is clean enough for you. By all means upgrade the first stone. But perhaps you can have your jeweler bring in other stones for you to see. You do not want to make such an important decision just test driving one stone. You want to be happy with the stone you pick for a long time and not start wondering again. I vote yes change the old stone, a recut will not help its color. But ask for more upgrade stones to choose from.

Here’s how I look at it. It’s like choosing a new bf. The current one is great even spectacular at times though he’s kind of not doing it for me the way he did when we first met and maybe a change is a good thing. Now along comes the new bf. He seems perfect compared to the old one but soon you start to see little things that may not be something you could live with. He’s not all you imagined but in some ways a step ahead of the old bf. Do you stick with the old tried and true on the safe side or trade in for the perfect or so you thought ? Will he keep you happy or will your eye start to wander yet again in the future for that “perfect” one. Lol! Just thought we could use a little humour. :D

@doberman boy does your reply below resonate with me.

That's exactly it. Sometimes a little knowledge can create dissatisfaction where none existed before. Comparison is the thief of joy. There's always something better out there but at some point it's healthier to love what you have.

Well, I think sometimes we get tired of wearing the same thing day after day and yearn for something new. I know that I have had favorite pieces I have sworn never to sell as I loved them so much for years. Then all of a sudden there is a new love and it may be at a cost that I need to sell something and I suddenly feel that the previous favorite piece is the one I want to sell for making that something new possible for myself. And there is nothing wrong with that either. We get tired of wearing the same jacket for years or the same clothes too. And in some cases we just find a piece is not really us even if it is drop dead gorgeous. Somehow does not fit. Some things are disturbing or annoying. Whatever. The only thing you have to make sure is that you are really ready to let go.I know when I am not. But I think this case is a bit different because OP wants to upgrade and improve what she has and nothing wrong with that either. It can take a long time to figure out whether you really love something as is or want to change it.

Love the analogies, at Princess and Sunstorm! I’m not the fall in love at first sight type of girl, so I think it’s translating to my diamonds. Lol. It’s only after seeing in all scenarios that I think I will know.

Pictures like these concern me. Like is that haze? Usually, I’m great at taking pictures!

The pix are not exactly in focus, especially No.2. No.1 definitely shows haze and I think No. 3 shows it the best as it is most in focus. Can you loupe it for clouds? To me the left side seems to be the most affected but I do see a general loss of performance in some photos. I checked your report, fluor is only faint, I thought that could contribute but in this case it is probably the inclusions.

Can you perhaps consider upgrading at least one clarity grade higher? In this size it is extremely difficult to find a clean SI2, even an SI1 can be a challenge. The color of this stone is extremely white for being an I and cut seemed nice but the inclusions seems to affect the visual performance of the stone.

I was afraid of that. TBH, I’m confused bc my phone has been taking blurry pics lately. But I will say that those pics are indicative of what I’m seeing. But then, indoors, it looks gorgeous! Then there’s this pic

Nala the strange thing is it almost look it is the fluor, especially presenting outside in daylight but being faint and taking into consideration the clarity grade, comments and size I suspect it has to be the clouds. Just take a loupe out and check it yourself it you can.

You are going up in size and a bit in cut quality but the color and clarity stay the same. SI2 in a larger stone can be tricky. I get the feeling that you're not blown away with it so not sure this is the stone for you. If you have doubts, then it is probably better to stick with what you have. There can always be other stones out there for your consideration. If going up in size is not your first priority, you might go up in clarity to make a difference in what you are seeing.

Anyone care to chime in on the idealscope?

Hi @nala :wavey: I am late to get party, but I just want to say that I am loving that new stone! I *think* what you are seeing in the sun is a well-cut stone that goes dark, this is pretty typical for near ideal cut diamonds. However, I also see some cloud inclusions listed on the report, so that could also be it.. Nonetheless, I still love it and I definitely see the cut difference, but you need to love it and be happy with it! Are you satisfied with it?

Trust the master cutter,

Then,

Are there no guarantees for a job like this ? ASET, HCA seem safe references to aim for & use as a standard; H&A is one step beyond & done around here nonetheless ...

I was hoping you would chime in! What do you think about the idealscope?

Hi. It's not that in not blown away. It's that I'm afraid to get too attached only to realize that the stone is not perfect. Lol. I feel like I've spent the weekend scrutinizing it and trying to find faults in order to stay objective Bc in all my previous diamond purchases I was impulsive.

IS is the same. It seems that there is little light behind the stone, so what used to be white areas are a mid gray.

Satisfied? I've been to reluctant to admit that I love how much bigger an brighter and whiter it seems compared to mine. Bc I'm trying to scrutinize it and am so afraid of messing up. I know the clouds could be an issue according to the certificate, so i think that I'm trying to rule them out as one, but to my untrained eyes, I don't know what to look for. I have to confess that idk what haze looks like. And when I loupe the stone, the inclusions are so white they are hard to spot. What do you think of the idealscope? Could that help to reveal haze issues?

So I don’t think it’s haze. Lol. My hubby fixed my phone settings.

Thank you! This is reassuring to hear. I have to stop by my jeweler’s in a few hours and see more stones or opt for this or my old one. I know for a fact the other choices are more expensive, and for the same carat size. Ugh. I have to stay grounded and focus on my budget!

Just trust your judgement. You can also post a few pics here and get others’ opinions, but at the end of the day, you need to be happy with your diamond!

Ty! Yes. This upgrade is certainly about me and for me. I will tell you one thing that i am certain of— no one will be able to tell that I upgraded. No one in my social circle. I don’t wear diamonds for anyone, just me. But it makes me wonder about this diamond disease. Lol.
