Hello all - some of you may or may not have seen my post in Rocky Talky a few weeks ago about how my 4-prong e-ring broke (link), and also makes my diamond look slightly bigger, thus staving off the desperate craving for an upgrade for SLIGHTLY longer

Anyway, here are some pics, and as usual they don''t do the ring anything resembling justice. I may try to get some better handshots after my manicure on Friday (try to not be too frightened by the scary pale puffy morning hands in the meantime

). For those of you who don''t want to bother looking through the old thread, this stone is a 1.12 ct G SI1, GIA cert 60.9% depth 57% table. Its certainly not a branded H&A but it does have some lovely arrows in the right light, and it sparkles like crazy. The stones in the band are .025 ct each, and the ring is size 6.5.

As someone once called it, the "butt" of the ring (I like it ''cause you can really see how delicate the prongs are and how the wedding band will sit nice and flush):

Obligatory handshot (keeping in mind previous caveats about pale puffy morning hands...):

And finally some sparklies on our new table, just for fun:

The new head shows off the stone beautifully! Congratulations on such a georgous "make over"!

It looks fabulous!

I do love your prong makeover - the 6 prongs still do show your stone off really nicely and it just looks so good on that thin shank!!!

Congrats on the new look!

Glad they were able to fix it to your satisfaction. It doesn''t look like that bad boy is going anywhere now!

I thought about a 6 head prong too, but my jeweler offered to put the bars on for free, plus they could do that in house whereas with a new head they would have had to send iit back to Scott Kay, so that''s what I went with. Haven''t had a problem since.

I''m so glad this worked out okay for you. I think the six prong head looks great!!!

Did you say that a w-ring will be able to sit COMPLETELY flush?!

Lynn

Very pretty, love the six prong look.

OH and did you say that it makes your diamond look slightly *BIGGER*???! Now that is ALWAYS a VERY GOOD THING!!!

Wondering... in general, do 6-prongs (vs 4) usually do that????

amber, from one new 6 prong lover to another, the new prongs look amazing! i am so loving my new scoopy prongs too.

eta lynn i do feel like 6 prongs makes it look bigger than 4. for me the reason is that the prongs are uniformly placed around the stone following the circle of the diamond. so they protrude just slightly out from the diamond itself, giving you that extra bit of visual oomph to make your eye feel like the diamond goes out further than it does. 4 prongs for me was like they didn't exist (prongs) and so therefore did not add or detract from the line of the diamond. too big 4 prongs makes the stone look like a princess. but 6 prongs placed just slightly out and not too big, not too small i think visually assists the 'size' thing.

Beautiful head! I love 6-prongs.

Thanks so much everyone - I am really loving the makeover. I keep avoiding things I have to do in lab that involve putting on gloves because I hate taking it off

Lynn - the wedding band sits pretty much totally flush. There will probably be a tiny gap when I''m actually wearing them because they will both spin unless I get them soldered together (which I don''t want to do), but I held them up together and verified that they can sit flush, which is what I had told SP that I wanted.

I also think that Mara said it perfectly about the 6 prongs - I think when done right, they do make the diamond look a bit bigger, which is never a bad thing

Sadly, I don''t think it makes it look enough bigger to make me more patient about wanting a big upgrade, but FI and I made a deal that we get a house and then a new car for him before I get to start looking at serious upgrades
7.gif
He did, however, love the way that Mara''s new ring looked on her finger and since my fingers are just a bit bigger I guess that means I''ll need a bigger stone when the time comes

I get to wear the matching band almost exactly 2 months from now, on July 9, 2006, and boy am I ready (and not just to wear the ring - this wedding planning stuff gets stressful!

i too love the 6 prongs. It''s looks beautiful.

I must admit....I love the 6 prong better too..........your ring is scrumptious! love it!
glad you got your bling back!

Thanks MrsSalvo & Jetmal - I really do prefer the ring this way, and I am ecstatic to have it back - as my FI joked, "we are legitimate again"
3.gif
Maybe I should tell him I need another diamond ring so we can be legitimate even if something else happens to this one or I want more modifications
