Has anyone seen the Al Thani exhibit recently? It has been traveling the world for some time now and I had the distinct pleasure of seeing it here in San Francisco at the legion of honor.

The diamonds and other jewels are jaw dropping and other worldly...specifically the Idols Eye and a certain pink Golconda are now seared in my brain

Has anyone seen this exhibit? It’s worth going out of the way for - particularly for pricescopers!

I seriously regret missing this when it was in my home country

The closest it came was Paris & ... what was I thinking!

I am surprised by who hosts - counting the pieces among insignia rather than anything: this is very old school...

Ooh, thanks for the heads-up, @Sfadman,

Going there after lunch today! =)2

Glad to see you are going @JPie and hope you make it @Krisking!

This being Rockytalky I'd love to discuss:

- The huge old uncut/windowpane diamonds that are so mesmerizing
- The Golconda stones that really all they are cracked up to be. I had been thinking of the "golconda" name as more of a marketing angle but these stones really do look different (maybe because they are so enormous?)

@RosieR & @AV_ I found this youtube video from when the exhibit was in Venice:
.

I’ve been thinking about going!

The most terribly cut diamonds on Earth!

There must be more to say if a small diamond might give something of the same impression (to me: of light through fast running water - impossibly stilled)...

YF writes @diagem of taking down (in size ,) the model of some grand diamonds, but not like these.
