Gorgeous ring, AJ. And, I''m quite sure your garnet is top color for an umbalite. I

What a beauty: both the stone and ring compliment each other where both are equally gorgeous.

Hi, thanks Chrono!

Actually I''m wondering if you or anyone else here can answer something for me about my garnet -

with re to Gene''s grading system, he gave it only a 5 for colour and 4+ for clarity (on a scale of 1 - 10), which has me kinda baffled..
Arjunajane, I could be wrong but I''m pretty sure you bought your garnet before Gene implemented his new grading system with scale of 1-10. Prior grading system was 1-5 for both color and scale, which makes your garnet grades make much better sense

This ring is one of my favorites by far, I love everything about it. The stone, setting, size, everything! One day I would love to have a JM ring myself with a gorgeous stone like yours
30.gif

I''m curious though, if you can, do you mind taking some photos of how the stone looks indoors? I love my Garnets (some from Gene) which all look absolutely gorgeous outside but go dark as soon as I step indoors and have been wondering if that''s just how garnets are, that they''re daylight stones.
Ah, thankyou BB! You''re right I think, that would absolutely make better sense, thankyou!

Thankyou for your compliments hon - your amazing umbalite jewellery was my inspiration for getting one in the first place, so I''m very happy
you like it. I still adore your gorgeous pendant btw !

Mine is absolutely a "daytime stone" - I''m pretty sure thats just how they are. It still looks pretty indoors during the day, and also is still rather bright
under down - lights in my home at night time - but a different type of glow, kwim? It definately shines when outdoors during the day.
I will try to get some photos for you today.

Thanks BB

outside in direct sun - likely one of the most unflattering lights in photos, although it does "glow" and sparkle quite abit IRL.

I don''t know what you''d call this, but this is outside with the sun hitting it just right so that it glows - def.
the most flattering light

This is how it looks most often to me - reddish-purple pink - inside with decent sunlight.

ok, so now you've seen about half of its personalities, lol!
So I hope that kinda answered your question...they are easily a daytime gem, and specifically indirect sun imho

You''re the best! Thank you so much for all your great photos
36.gif
They definitely show the different personalities, but even under the worst indoor lighting the stone seems to glow
30.gif
I just wish I didn''t spend so much time stuck inside with terrible lighting (both at the office and at home), I don''t get to enjoy the true beauty of my gems as much as I would like!

Tell me about it, office lighting is the pits - even my diamond used to look rather bleck at work

Out of curiousity, do your garnets behave similiar to what I''ve posted above?

Pretty much, although colors obviously vary depending on the individual garnet. For example right now I''m wearing my BB Tanga Garnet I had finally set, and in the office it''s looking pretty dark and brown although it definitely shows flashes of red. My Umbalite Garnets look very similar to yours in various lighting, going from pink to purple to red in various lighting conditions, and seem to hold their colors a little better since they''re a bit lighter to begin with.

yep, I think the umbalites are pretty good performers all in all - I just love your pendant. Do you get to wear it much?

AJ,
Gene has only recently implemented the new grading system so I suspect yours is still graded using his older system. I doubt he has time to go back and re-grade all the older stones too. I never get tired of looking at your set. And what''s that gorgeous band I see? Did I miss an explanation somewhere? You are tempting me to go for a JM bezel for my tsavorite with that beauty of yours.
