hi everyone,

many of you have very big beautiful rings.. and they are absolutely awsome..and sometimes i am blown over at the size of the rock!!!! the question is, how old were you girls when you got engaged? and your fiances who could afford such an awsome rock?

I am 25 when i bought my fiancee who was in her 20yo a 1ct, L, VS2 Cushion ering.

well my first ring was a .40 ct princess cut with two .10 sidestones and a .50 ctw wedding band, at age 24 (neither of us was financially stable at the time), Five years later, my hubby and I decide to upgrade to a 1.21 carat, still have the first set for sentimental reason.

I was 38 with a 1.08 pear. Its not hugh but it is bigger than average around where I''m from.

Hello there
35.gif

I am 38 and got married this year - but I decided to buy myself my ring. My husband could have never been in the financial position to get the 5.13CT ring that I am actually wearing right now. He's fine with that actually.

He was 25, and it was a colorless 1ct round, ex/ex/ex. And it is perfect for me!

I got some funny looks at the time though since I was only 21, and looked 12, and the rock looks really large because of my small hands and how bright and white it is.

We were 28 and my ring was a sapphire, cost ~1500.

We only upgraded to my present 1.17ct after 2 years of marriage, we are 31 now.

I think you will find that many PS women have upgraded their original rings, which were more modest. The average size of an e-ring in the US is about .35ct.

He was 24 and I was 22 when he first gave me the 0.82 ct H, VS2 e-riing
He upgraded the ring to 1.20 ct after 5 years and again to 1.50 ct 2 years after the first upgrade

I was 24 when I got engaged. I have been married for 12 years now. I received a 1.27 carat diamond in a temporary 6 prong platinum setting. He told me he had no idea what I wanted so I could go back to the jeweler to have it reset. I loved it the way it was and told him it was perfect. Then a few months later we were in Nantucket and we saw a 3 stone diamond ring in platinum with a sapphire on each side. We both fell in love with it and said that is the setting for me. I waited until we were married 5 years and I had just given birth to our first child to finally reset it with the sapphires on the sides. I have been wearing it that way for 7 years and I am still madly in love with the ring. I will never upgrade as I am very sentimental...If my husband wants to buy me a larger diamond for an anniversary I would not be apposed to that as long as I can keep my ring.

Stats: 1.27 E SI1 GIA Excellent cut (7mm)
Ceylone Sapphires 1.27 carats each (6.4mm each)

Let me see if I can attach a picture. Here goes...

wow! thank you all for your responses! i thought that the question may be a bit personal so i hope none of you took it the wrong way!

i am 25 myself, and i got a 1.235 carat ring... and when i look at the price.. then i try to imagine the wedding costs... i am just so overwhelmed and i think maybe it would be easier on our finances if my fiance gave me a smaller one. i try to tell myself to take it one step at a time, but you cant help but to feel nervous when u see how expensive things are today.

it seems from your posts that you all saved for a long time and updated long the way... and that makes me feel a bit better...thank you all for being so honest. i know sometimes a persons age or size may make people feel uncomfortable to speak about

ps: vanderaf: ur ring is beautiful!

I was 26 when he proposed. My husband gave me a 1 carat round. He was totally clueless about diamonds and engagement rings, and did the best he could.

23, 2ct I SI2, thanks PS!

grad school / IT techie combo here.

I was 26, he was 31 when he gave me my 3.03 H&A RB.

we are both 29 and got engaged 3 months ago. i have a 1.52 round F, VS1 stone.

I was 26 last year he is the same (two months older than me) I got a 2.04ct ACA RB in a plat eternity setting. He had saved for the stone for ages and we put the setting on our cc and paid it off in 3 months. Wedding will be small I wanted my ring more than a big wedding and we are waiting 2 years to save for that so should be fine.

I became engaged on my 18th birthday. Married at 21 and reset my stone on my 29th birthday. DH was 23 when he proposed with my 1ct M SI1 marquis.

Thanks Amethyste!

I love it to pieces and it is one of a kind. I designed it with the help of Brian Gavin shortly before he left WF.

Ponder I''d like to second that your ring is really beautiful. Very unique.

I''ll THIRD that your ring is breathtaking!

I''ve been engaged 3 times (the last one stuck) but as I got older and dated older and more accomplished men I definitely got bigger rings.

Engagement at age 22 to musician (he was 26): .5 cttw 3 stone ring set in WG

Engagement at age 26 to lawyer (he was 30): 1 ct E SI1 solitaire set in WG

Engagement at age 29 to MBA (he was 34): 2 ct G SI1 solitaire set in platinum

me: 23
him: 24

We went with a 0.63 stone. Diamonds are so expensive in Australia and initially I was expecting <0.5 and would have been happy with that too. I have small hands and when I tried on a 1ct stone I wasn''t comfortable with how flashy it was, I know I''m crazy and most girl would love it but I am me. Then we discovered the possibilities of buying online

We could have afforded to spend more and he set the budget higher but in perspective I could get a beautiful ring for a reasonable price and we could keep the extra in our home fund.

I send that. I loooovvveee warm stones next to white stones for contrast. Stunning!

I was 19 when I got engaged to my husband who was 21 at the time. My ring is a 1.70 round with two pears on the sides.

I was 24, and my husband was 27 when he gave me my 2.12 E VVS2 emerald cut. My setting has 4 .15 ct rounds, 2 on each side of the center stone.

The melee is I in color, the lowest Brian said he had. But it looks great with the M colored stone.

I was 24, he was 28.

1.3 E, VVS1 round. Eight years on I still have the same stone and setting, with no plans to upgrade.
